  • With the availability of large treebanks, retrieval techniques for highly structured data now become essential. In this contribution, we investigate the efficient retrieval of MT structures at the cost of a complex index--the Treegram Index. We illustrate our approach with the VENONA retrieval system, which handles the BH t (Biblia Hebraica transeripta) treebank comprising 508,650 phrase structure trees with maximum degree eight and maximum height 17, containing altogether 3.3 million Old-Hebrew words.

  • In this tutorial, a solid FEA model of a bent rod experiencing a combined load is created. No planes of symmetry exist and therefore simplifications cannot be made. Finally, the significance of the von Mises stress in design equation is discussed. 1 Problem Statement Copyrighted Material Clamped end The bent rod, shown to the right, is clamped at one end and subjected to a load of 2000 lb as displayed. The steel rod has a Young modulus of 30E+6 psi and Poisson ratio 0.3 . The nominal dimensions of the rod are also displayed below.

  • The module describes one approach to handling congested links; compression. It discusses link efficiency mechanisms that either compress the payload of packets (Stacker and Predictor) or reduce packet overhead by compressing their headers (TCP and RTP header compression). It also discusses two different layer-2 link fragmentation mechanisms (PPP Multilink and Frame Relay Fragmentation).

  • Although production costs of organic specialty crops can be higher than conventional production, some organic commodity crops have lower costs of production than the same conventional crops. A recent study of corn and soybean production in Iowa found that organic farms had lower fertilizer and pesticide costs, but higher seed and machinery costs. On the average, the total cost of organic production was slightly lower than that of conventional production.

  • Most highway expansion benefits are captured by consumers; it increases their mobility, allowing motorists to live in more distant suburbs and exurban areas. Only a small portion of these benefits are captured by businesses since commercial vehicles represent only a small portion of total traffic. Although some industrial trends, such as just-in-time production, increase the importance of road transport, other trends, such as telecommunications that substitute for physical travel, reduce its importance.

  • Moisture deficiencies occurring early in the crop cycle may delay the maturity season and reduce yields. Shortages later in the season often lower quality, as well as yields. However, irrigation surplus, especially late in the season, can reduce both the quality and the post-harvest life of the crop. Uneven or surplus irrigation, above the amount required to replace evapotranspiration, causes nitrate leaching below the root system and the ability of the crop to recover from the nitrogen deficiency decreases.

  • A precursor to most of the recent structural changes in the stock exchange industry has been the process of demutualisation (or, in some cases, privatisation), which took its beginning with the Stockholm Stock Exchange in 1993. Virtually all stock exchanges in OECD countries have followed suit. In the sample covered by this article, all exchanges have demutualised and only three of them (TSE, WSX, SWX) have not yet listed.

  • Dermer and Lucas (1986) introduce a political perspective, stating that the definition of control is linked to concepts of authority (the person in charge of the organisation has to dominate the behaviour of his subordinates), objectives and strategy (an effort is made to attain the set objectives through the effective and efficient combination of the organisation’s means and resources), analysis of the current situation, motivation (the organisation’s components have to be motivated in order to make the individual objectives tally with the overall ones), evaluation (in order to me...

  • ost of the problems of analyzing survey data have been reasonably well handled, except those revolving around the existence of interaction effects. Indeed, increased efficiency in handling multivariate analyses even with non-numerical variables, has been achieved largely by assuming additivity. An approach to survey data is proposed which imposes no restrictions on interaction effects, focuses on importance in reducing predictive error, operates sequentially, and is independent of the extent of linearity in the classifications or the order in which the explanatory factors are introduced...

  • Motion control systems today can be found in such diverse applications as materials handling equipment, machine tool centers, chemical and pharmaceutical process lines, inspection stations, robots, and injection molding machines. Merits of Electric Systems Most motion control systems today are powered by electric motors rather than hydraulic or pneumatic motors or actuators because of the many benefits they offer: • More precise load or tool positioning, resulting in fewer product or process defects and lower material costs.

  • The ability to organize and process information is the key to success in the modern age. Computers are designed to handle and process large amounts of information quickly and efficiently, but they can't do anything until someone tells them what to do. That's where C comes in. C is a programming language that allows a software engineer to efficiently communicate with a computer.

  • I wrote this text for a one semester course at the sophomore-junior level. Our experience with students taking our junior physics courses is that even if they’ve had the mathematical prerequisites, they usually need more experience using the mathematics to handle it efficiently and to possess usable intuition about the processes involved. If you’ve seen infinite series in a calculus course, you may have no idea that they’re good for anything.

  • Previous RFQ Page Next Index Page Home Page This section will introduce most of the more common types of drive mechanisms found in linear motion machinery. Ideally, a drive system should not support any loads, with all the loads being handled by a bearing system. Topics discussed will include, but not be limited to, the mechanism of actuation, efficiency, accuracy, load transfer, speed, pitch, life cycle, application and maintenance. Each type of drive system will be accompanied by a diagram and useful equations when applicable....
