  • Textile industry is a leading industry for most countries, such as China, Singapore, UK, Bangladesh, Italy, Turkey etc. But, environmental pollution is one of the main results of this industry. Parralel to usage of huge amounts of water ad chemicals, the textile dyeing and finishing industry is one of the major polluters among industrial sectors, in the scope of volume and the chemical composition of the discharged effluent (Pagga & Brown, 1986).

  • Taking military barracks wastewater treatment as an example, this paper presents a new concept design of a modified DEWATS system with both the horizontal subsurface constructed wetland and aquatic plants pond. Results show that this process in treating the military barracks area wastewater have many advantages such as low operation cost, simple operation and maintenance, and the effluent could meet "the urban wastewater treatment plant pollutant discharge standard" for first level Class A.

  • Wastewater with low pollution concentrations are common in cities of the developing countries also in Vietnam because sewer network for wastewater is not yet construction that rely on combined sewer network. The results of the decomposition of organic matter partly in combined sewer network significantly reduced levels of BOD, while reducing nitrogen only a small part. The imbalance of BOD, nitrogen ratio is a challenge for treatment of wastewater - especially to ensure the nitrogen meets requirements.

  • Since the Second World War, and especially since the publication of Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring in 1962, there has been growing concern about contamination of the environment by “man-made” chemicals. These chemicals may be present in industrial and municipal effluents, in consumer or commercial products, in mine tailings, in petroleum products, and in gaseous emissions. Some chemicals such as pesticides may be specifically designed to kill biota present in natural or agricultural ecosystems. They may be organic, inorganic, metallic, or radioactive in nature.

  • The accounting treatment of investments in property, plant and equipment and intangible assets entails the use of estimates to determine the useful life for depreciation and amortization purposes and to assess fair value at their acquisition dates for assets acquired in business combinations. Determining useful life requires making estimates in connection with future technological developments and alternative uses for assets.

  • The technology-based Effluent Guidelines could not guarantee achievement of adequate water quality in all receiving waters, so permit writers were required to set even more stringent “water-quality-limited” standards for plants discharging into such water bodies. These standards necessarily depended on the current conditions of the receiving water body and its capacity to absorb waste. Also, the effluent limitations for any firm affected and were affected by the effluent limitations on all other firms. The front-line administration of this program—i.e.

  • Strikes and kicks can be very swift and dangerous because of the two horny claws on each foot. Striking with the forelimbs is often performed as part of a rearing jumping action while on the move. With the hind leg the camel can kick to its own shoulder in swinging sidewards and kick forcefully rearwards. They are able to deliver a strong sweeping kick while in sternal recumbency. The camel is also capable of delivering quite a forceful, backward kick with the front leg. Wild camels in open country will run away while they can, but may be very...

  • MBR (Membrane Brio-Reactor) can be broadly defined as systems integrating biological degradation of waste products with membrane filtration. Set up of MBR plant is mainly utilizing a bioreactor and membrane filtration as one unit process for wastewater treatment thereby replacing, and in some cases supplementing, the solids separation function of secondary clarification and effluent filtration, resulting the possibility to eliminate the secondary clarification and operate at higher MLSS concentration....

  • The ecosystem of the lake is under threat due to the rise in human population density leading to intensive irrigation, farming, land subdivision, and intensive use of agro- chemicals and deforestation around the lake. The growth of the township has also led to more runoff, siltation and nutrients being discharged into the lake via inflowing rivers and drainage channels along roads and the other infrastructure. Inadequately treated effluents from the ton's sewage treatment plan are also finding their way into the lake.

  • Breathing clean air is important to maintain our health. Thousands of us live in areas where the air is sometimes considered unhealthy to breathe because it is polluted. One common air pollutant is ground-level ozone. The effects of ground-level ozone pollution are different than the effects of the ozone layer high up in the atmosphere, which helps protect us from receiving too much of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. At ground level, ozone can cause breathing difficulties, aggravate lung diseases, such as asthma, and may cause permanent lung damage.

  • For this, credit is due to a set of economists and water quality engineers who were actively exploring the application of taxes to the problems of large, polluted watersheds. In the mid-1960s, large studies of the Delaware River Estuary were undertaken to assess, among other things, the desirability of using effluent charges to control pollutants. In 1967, Johnson reported that a “zoned” effluent charge program (where different tax levels were applied in different zones along the estuary) would cost half as much as a “uniform treatment” regulation.

  • This study was performed to develop software sensorsto predict the BOD5 of river water and wastewater. The software sensors were based on the multiple-regression analysis using the dissolved organic carbon(DOC) concentration, UV light absorbance at 254nm and synchronous fluorescence spectra. River water samples and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)effluents were collected at 1-hour interval to evaluatethe feasibility of the software sensors.
