  • This book considers electronic devices applied to process analog signals in in strument making, automation, measurements, and other branches of technology. They perform various transformations of electrical signals: scaling, integration, logarithming, etc. Such devices are considered in tutorials on electronics. The need in their deeper study is caused, on the one hand, by the great demands of extending the range of input signals, as well as increasing the accuracy and speed of such devices, which usually receive insufficient attention.

  • Abiosensor can be generally defined as a device that consists of a biological recognition system, often called a bioreceptor, and a transducer. In general, a biochip consists of an array of individual biosensors that can be individually monitored and generally are used for the analysis of multiple analytes. The interaction of the analyte with the bioreceptor is designed to produce an effect measured by the transducer, which converts the information into a measurable effect, such as an electrical signal. Figure 1.1 illustrates the conceptual principle of the biosensing process.

  • This third volume of the book series Lessons In Electric Circuits makes a departure from the former two in that the transition between electric circuits and electronic circuits is formally crossed. Electric circuits are connections of conductive wires and other devices whereby the uniform ow of electrons occurs. Electronic circuits add a new dimension to electric circuits in that some means of control is exerted over the ow of electrons by another electrical signal, either a voltage or a current....

  • Wireless communications is rapidly becoming one of the ubiquitous technological underpinnings of modern society (such as electric power, fossil fuels, automobiles, etc.). Few people think about the technology within their mobile phones, remote controls, garage door openers, GPS navigation devices, and so on. They are always at hand and reliably work for the user. Yet even within the electrical engineering (EE) community, radio communication techniques have a reputation as a “Black Art” that can only be successfully practiced by “RF people”. This is changing, albeit slowly.

  • Television is a means of changing patterns of light into electrical signals for storage or transmission and then recreating those patterns on a screen. In order to do this well, the television camera must be presented with properly illuminated scenes. The three important considerations are overall level, contrast range, and color temperature. Level Lighting levels for television are generally set by adjusting the incident light, or the light striking the subject.

  • Some basic concepts of analogue signals are introduced in this section. You will learn the basic functions of an analogue electronic system, viz. transformation and generation of signals of continuous nature. Here, signal transformation refers to all kinds of manipulation such as filtering (selecting signals of a certain range of frequencies) and amplification (enlarging the magnitude of a signal). Signal generation in the context of analogue electronics can be taken to mean the construction of a signal with a specified waveform, as in the case of a sinusoidal wave generator.
