There is a new era of global environmental factors that needs to be
addressed via sound Corporate Environmental Management. Environmental
problems are a key area of concern for the global community in the new
21st century. A sustainable global community is emerging that is geared
toward preserving limited resources and the natural ecology, but to do so
requires resource conservation and the reduction of environmental pollution
loads across all human activities.

In 1994, in response to an Administrative Consent Order with the Department of Environmental
Protection, MassHighway began a comprehens ive environmental compliance initiative at its
maintenance facilities. At the outset, the Department performed a gap analysis to evaluate
MassHighway’s management structure and to determine the level of environmental compliance.
The gap analysis concluded that a significant financial and personnel investment was needed to
correct violations of regulatory requirements and to provide a method to ensure on-going

Significant changes in the environmental field have required a re-evaluation of the environmental
protection programs in place around the world. Although reductions in pollution levels have been
realized in certain areas, necessary expectations for environmental protection have not been met
in spite of extensive regulatory programs and cost expenditures. This book examines new
approaches to environmental protection, including the emerging field of international environmental
law and environmental management systems...
Risk management is a topic on the agenda of an increasing number of organizations
around the world for the last 20 years or so. In fact, due to the large number of
corporate scandals, risk management has become central in the boardrooms of large
enterprises around the world as some stock exchanges in fact demand risk
management in the corporate governance work. Despite this, we have a financial crisis
that abundantly illustrated that risks were not properly understood – also in
corporations that supposedly were conducting risk management....
This book is intended to introduce environmental scientists and
managers to the statistical methods that will be useful for them in their
work. A secondary aim was to produce a text suitable for a course in
statistics for graduate students in the environmental science area. I
wrote the book because it seemed to me that these groups should
really learn about statistical methods in a special way. It is true that
their needs are similar in many respects to those working in other
Concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) are part of a recent agricultural trend toward
large-scale, corporate-owned and managed livestock production. A far cry from the traditional
family farm, CAFOs have lowered prices and increased production—but at a cost. While some of
the problems CAFOs can cause are economic and related to small farm and farming community
culture, or societal with a focus of the animal rights activism groups, other problems are ecological
and environmental and will only be solved by intelligently crafted and enforced legislation....
In recent years the topic of environmental management has become very common. In
sustainable development conditions, central and local governments much more often
notice the need of acting in ways that diminish negative impact on environment.
Environmental management may take place on many different levels – starting from
global level, e.g. climate changes, through national and regional level (environmental
policy) and ending on micro level. This publication shows many examples of environmental
