  • d-Amino acid oxidase (DAAO) has recently become of interest as a biocat-alyst for industrial applications and for therapeutic treatments. It has been used in gene-directed enzyme prodrug therapies, in which its production of H2O2 in tumor cells can be regulated by administration of substrate. This approach is limited by the locally low O2 concentration and the high Km for this substrate.

Nearly 70 years later we commented in the Preface to the Millennium (21st) edition of Recent Advances in Anaesthesia and Analgesia that the pace of advances in anaesthesia showed no sign of abating. Although 2 years further on this statement remains true, change has now affected the title as well. • The justification for choosing this typing scheme is scalability. In other sys- tems, such as one finds for example in the Java Distributed Event Specifica- tion [SunMicrosystems 1998] andCORBANotification Service [ObjectManage- ment Group 1998b], a notification is a value of some named, explicit notification type. This implies a global authority formanaging and verifying the type space, something which is clearly not feasible at an Internet scale. On the other hand, we define a restricted set of attribute types from which to construct (arbitrary) notifications.

  • To deal with the lack of reported information, we propose a novel approach to obtain the exposure contained in the net position in interest-rate derivatives. We specify a state space model of a bank’s derivatives trading strategy. We then use Bayesian methods to estimate the bank’s strategy using the joint distribution of interest rates, bank fair and notional values as well as bid-ask spreads. Intuitively, the identification of the bank’s strategy relies on whether the net position (per dollar notional) gains or loses in value over time, together with the history of rates.
