  • This book is intended to present for the first time experimental methods to measure equilibria states of pure and mixed gases being adsorbed on the surface of solid materials. It has been written for engineers and scientists from industry and academia who are interested in adsorption based gas separation processes and/or in using gas adsorption for characterization of the porosity of solid materials

  • Solutions and Indicators for Neutralization Titrations A. Standard Solutions: The standards solutions used as titrants for unknown w eak acids or bases are alw ays strong bases or acids, respectively. Standard titrant acids: dilute solutions of HCl, HClO 4 , or H 2 SO 4 . Standard titrant bases: dilute solutions of NaOH, KOH. The primary standards may not be strong acids or bases (e.g., potassium acid phthalate, sodium oxalate, sodium bicarbonate).

  • The solubility of a partially soluble salt is decreased when a common ion is added. Consider the equilibrium established when acetic acid, HC2H3O2, is added to water. At equilibrium H+ and C2H3O2- are constantly moving into and out of solution, but the concentrations of ions is constant and equal. If a common ion is added, e.g. C2H3O2- from NaC2H3O2 (which is a strong electrolyte) then [C2H3O2-] increases and the system is no longer at equilibrium. So, [H+] must decrease.

  • The process of analyte retention in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) involves many different aspects of molecular behavior and interactions in condensed media in a dynamic interfacial system. Molecular diffusion in the eluent flow with complex flow dynamics in a bimodal porous space is only one of many complex processes responsible for broadening of the chromatographic zone.
