.ETHICAL ISSUES IN ACCOUNTING
Ethical issues in the field of accounting have been previously considered in the UK only in terms of the application of codes of ethics. This unique book identifies accounting as an activity with complex ethical implications for the profession in general and for individual practitioners.

A philosophical study of morality is very different from a sociological or anthropological
study, or a study from the perspective of biology or psychology. One
important difference is that in moral philosophy we do not distance ourselves
from our own moral views in the way we would if we were engaged in a study
of one of these other kinds. We do not take the fact that people, including ourselves,
have moral views as merely a datum to be explained.
This book reviews the external affairs of the European Union (EU) from a very
distinct perspective. Different from existing literature on the EU’s international
role, we seek to find moral and ethical arguments and justifications on which
the Union ought to base its global policies. We ask, in other words, what ethical
foundations might there be for developing a larger role for the EU in
regional politics and global governance or, conversely, what moral factors could
potentially limit the scope of the EU’s external ambitions?...
The title Perspectives on Complementary and Alternative Medicine was chosen for this
book to reflect the need for a critical overview of the subject areas that relate to the
development of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as part of a dynamic
process of change in contemporary society. The recent changes and developments in and
the exponential growth of CAM are explored from a wide range of perspectives and
covering several academic disciplines.
This collection offers new perspectives on ethical naturalism, narrowly
construed as the conjunction of two core theses. One holds that there
are moral properties and facts, the other that at least some such properties
and facts are natural properties and facts. Thus understood, ethical
naturalism is distinct from, though usually motivated by, philosophical
naturalism, a more general metaphysical outlook according to which all
there is is the world as conceived by science.

Improvements in corporate compliance, ethics, and oversight have been a significant policy goal for the U.S. government at least since the enactment of the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines in 1991 and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in 2002. Notwithstanding these earlier government initiatives, the collapse of financial

We are confronted with the problems of globalisation daily. Globalisation has become
a common phenomenon, yet one that many people experience as a threat not only to
their economic existence, but also to their cultural and moral self-image. Some join
protest organisations like ATTAC and others. Their protests regularly lead to violence
at international summits. Moreover, the current situation after September 11th can
be seen as an indirect consequence of problems associated with globalisation.
The study of public policy, including the methods of policy analysis, has been among the most rapidly
developing fi elds in the social sciences over the past several decades. Policy analysis emerged to
both better understand the policymaking process and to suppy policy decision makers with reliable
policy-relevant knowledge about pressing economic and social problems.
Religions have too often been used to justify the violation of human
rights, in part through the hierarchical and selective use of role ethics
and the postponement of temporal justice to divine judgment or future
karmic consequences. Yet the world religions have also provided a constant
voice of critique against the violation of human rights by calling for equality,
and universal compassion and love, calls which reach far beyond the
mere protection of human rights.
The overlap between regulations on germ-line genetic
intervention and reproductive cloning is refl ected
in Opinion 54 of The French National Consultative
Ethics Committee in 199717
where it cited Art.16-4 of
the civil code, which prohibits genetic modifi cation of
descendants as an implicit ban on reproductive cloning.
Another example is the Law on Healthcare in Georgia18
which states ‘Human cloning through the use of genetic
engineering methods shall be prohibited’.
