Partial evaluation technology continues to grow and mature. ACM SIGPLANsponsored
conferences and workshops have provided a forum for researchers to
share current results and directions of work. Partial evaluation techniques are
being used in commercially available compilers (for example the Chez Scheme
system). They are also being used in industrial scheduling systems (see Augustsson's
article in this volume), they have been incorporated into popular
commercial products (see Singh's article in this volume), and they are the basis
of methodologies for implementing domain-specific languages....
In any given software developer's career, there are many different things they need
to create. Of the software they need to create, given time constraints and resources,
it's almost impossible for them to perform the research involved to produce
everything correctly from scratch.
(BQ)Ebook Family and friends Starter - Testing and evaluation book allow you to find out how much pupiLs have Learned, and to decide what still needs consoLidation in order to provide appropriate activities for further practice before beginning the next unit. PupiLs shouLd be encouraged to realize that testing is not mereLy a way of assessing their progress, but aLso a way of heLping them.
(BQ) In the IELTS listening, candidates are presented with four different tasks which evaluate their skills. To add challenge to the test, the accents used in the listening passages are Australian and British accents. How can one practice for the IELTS listening test? Is it possible to review for it within 15 days? It is truly possible when you are at hand ebook 15 days' practice for IELTS listening.
Evidence-based practice has become a common expression in the helping
professions over the last decade. Beginning with medicine and moving to
fi elds such as psychology and social work, the number of books on evidencebased
practice has grown signifi cantly. What makes this book different? This
book is aimed at preservice and in-service school-based mental health service
providers, such as school counselors, school psychologists, and school
social workers. It is not a research book. It is a book about research-infused
This paper describes novel and practical Japanese parsers that uses decision trees. First, we construct a single decision tree to estimate modification probabilities; how one phrase tends to modify another. Next, we introduce a boosting algorithm in which several decision trees are constructed and then combined for probability estimation. The two constructed parsers are evaluated by using the EDR Japanese annotated corpus. The single-tree method outperforms the conventional .Japanese stochastic methods by 4%. ...
The Mathematical Sciences Education Board (MSEB) of the National
Research Council was established in 1985 to provide national leadership
and guidance for policies, programs, and practices supporting the improvement
of mathematics education at all levels. Curriculum materials for grades
K-12 play a central role in what mathematics topics are taught in our
schools, how the topics are sequenced and presented to students, what
levels of understanding are expected, what skills students will develop and
Standard Practice for classification of soils and soil-aggregate mixtures for highway construction purposes practice covers a procedure for classifying mineral and organomineral soils into seven groups based on laboratory determination of particle-size distribution, liquid limit, an plasticity index. It may be used when precise engineering classification is required, especially for highway construction purposes. Evaluation of soils within each group is made bymeans of a group index, which is a value calculated from an empirical formula.
The second edition of Safety Evaluation of Medical Devices continues to focus
on the objective of the first edition—to serve as a single-volume practical guide
for those who are responsible for or concerned with ensuring safety in the use
and manufacture of medical devices. It benefits from recognition of the limitations
and shortcomings of the previous edition, and also reflects the changes in
regulations, science, and the marketplace.
In particular, we examine whether the discourse coherence found in an essay, as de ned by a measure of relative proportion of Rough-Shift transitions, might be a signi cant contributor to the accuracy of computer-generated essay scores. Our positive nding validates the role of the Rough-Shift transition and suggests a route for exploring Centering Theory's practical applicability to writing evaluation and instruction.
For a natural language access to database system to be practical it must achieve a good match between the capabilities of the user and the requirements of the task. The user brings his own natural language and his own style of interaction to the system. The task brings the questions that must be answered and the database domaln+s semantics. All natural language access systems achieve some degree of success. But to make progress as a field, we need to be able to evaluate the degree of this success. For too long, the best we have menaged has been to...
This report presents the final results of the evaluation that RAND conducted for the Army Medical Department as part of the demonstration for the low back pain practice guideline, which was conducted in 1999 and 2000.
n partnership with the Army Medical Department (AMEDD), RAND researchers have been working to implement clinical practice guidelines in treatment of three common ailments (diabetes, asthma, and low back pain). This report is an evaluation of the diabetes practice guideline demonstration. It documents the extent to which
We evaluate the accuracy of an unlexicalized statistical parser, trained on 4K treebanked sentences from balanced data and tested on the PARC DepBank. We demonstrate that a parser which is competitive in accuracy (without sacrificing processing speed) can be quickly tuned without reliance on large in-domain manuallyconstructed treebanks. This makes it more practical to use statistical parsers in applications that need access to aspects of predicate-argument structure.
We show that a practical translation of MRS descriptions into normal dominance constraints is feasible. We start from a recent theoretical translation and verify its assumptions on the outputs of the English Resource Grammar (ERG) on the Redwoods corpus. The main assumption of the translation— that all relevant underspecified descriptions are nets—is validated for a large majority of cases; all non-nets computed by the ERG seem to be systematically incomplete.
This paper describes the work achieved in the firsthalf of a 4-year cooperative research project ( A R C A D E ) , financed by A U P E L F - U R E F . The project is devoted to the evaluation of parallel text alignment techniques. In its firstperiod ARCADE ran a competition between six systems on a sentence-to-sentence alignment task which yielded two main types of results. First, a large reference bilingual corpus comprising of texts of different genres was created, each presenting various degrees of difficultywith respect to the alignment task. ...
(BQ) Part 2 book "Ultrasonography in the ICU - Practical applications" presents the following contents: Vascular ultrasound in the critically ill, basic abdominal ultrasound in the icu, evaluation of soft tissue under ultrasound, clinical applications of ultrasound skills,...
Chapter 5: Appreciating individual differences: Intelligence, ability, personality, core self-evaluations, attitudes, and emotions. After reading the material in this chapter, you should be able to: Identify at least five of Gardner’s eight multiple intelligences, and explain “practical intelligence”; identify and describe the Big Five personality dimensions, specify which one is correlated most strongly with job performance, and describe the proactive personality; explain the four components of Core Self- Evaluations;...
The European Network of Health Promoting Schools (ENHPS) is a practical
example of a health promotion activity that has successfully incorporated the
energies of three major European agencies in the joint pursuit of their goals in
promoting health in schools. The ENHPS had its conceptual origins in the 1980s,
but since 1991, the initiative has been a tripartite activity, launched by the Euro-
pean Commission, the Council of Europe and the WHO Regional Office for
Europe. Starting with only seven countries, the ENHPS has enlarged over the
years and now has 43 countries as members....
