The committee members were selected for their expertise in molecular dynamics simulations, as well as their experience in the subject areas represented in the 81 proposals that were considered by the committee. They comprised a cross section of the biomolecular dynamics field in academia, industry and government including an array of both senior and junior investigators. The committee was assisted by two external reviewers,1 who
The Mathematical Sciences Education Board (MSEB) of the National
Research Council was established in 1985 to provide national leadership
and guidance for policies, programs, and practices supporting the improvement
of mathematics education at all levels. Curriculum materials for grades
K-12 play a central role in what mathematics topics are taught in our
schools, how the topics are sequenced and presented to students, what
levels of understanding are expected, what skills students will develop and
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has
requested that the National Academies, through the National Research
Council (NRC) and the Institute of Medicine (IOM), conduct a series of
reviews of its research portfolio. The charge is discussed in detail in a subsequent
section, but in general it is to evaluate the relevance and impact of a NIOSH research
program and to provide recommendations for future research. This report
contains a review and evaluation of the NIOSH Traumatic Injury (TI) Research

More importantly, while most of the theoretical models which we use to evaluate
mutual fund performance are based on the assumption of efficient markets, emerging markets
fail to meet these assumptions. Returns in emerging markets suffer from several chronic
conditions such as high volatility, high trading cost, non-normality, and infrequent trading
(Bekaert and Harvey, 2002). Furthermore, there is still some doubt whether the factors
documented in developed markets can also explain stock returns in emerging markets (for
example, Claessens et al.
Broadly defined, an audit is a systematic review of operations and practices
to ensure that relevant requirements are met.Traditionally, the term audit is
associated with principles of accounting. Because of this, many people perceive
a safety audit as an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) procedure or a financial
accounting procedure. Indeed, the safety audit may apply similar methodolo-
gies used in financial audits to mitigate safety risks within any facility or opera-
tion. A sound business enterprise must check its safety practices as carefully as
its accounting records.
It is very important that students have the opportunity to
practise new mathematics and to develop their
understanding by applying new ideas and skills to new
problems and new contexts.
The main source of exercises for consolidation and practice
is the text book.
It is important to check that the examples in the exercises
are graded from easy to difficult and that students don’t start
with the hardest examples.
In January 2006, the Committee met again for a two-day
session during which another in-depth evaluation of each
chapter was conducted. At this meeting, members
reviewed the literature that appeared in 2005—using the
same criteria developed for the update process. The list
of 285 publications from 2005 that were considered is
posted on the GINA website.
The recommendation that audit committees should consist of at least three
independent non-executive directors indicates that they are expected to undertake
effective monitoring of the executive directors. Given the reputational issues
involved, it is reasonable to argue that non-executive directors that are also
executive directors will be particularly strong monitors of the board‟s actions if a
member of the audit committee.
The enactment of the Weapon Systems Acquisition Reform Act of 2009 (Public
Law 111-23) and the recent revision of Department of Defense Instruction 5000.02
have served to highlight the complexity of the Department of Defense acquisition
process.1 This report serves as a follow-on study to the 2008 National Research
Council (NRC) report Pre-Milestone A and Early-Phase Systems Engineering: A
Retrospective Review and Benefits for Future Air Force Systems Acquisition, which
emphasized the role of systems engineering in the acquisition life cycle.

For residents who have transferred into the

Committee staff grouped questions by subject. During the first part of the session, members asked
the Secretary of State for Education questions informed by the tweets. In the second part the min-

the tweets from the subject groups or from the full list of questions received. The committee session
was posted on YouTube with direct links to specific questions.
At the same time, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that have a permanent consulta-
tive forum with the World Bank (WB), the WB-NGO Committee, identified social funds as the
most significant Bank-supported portfolio of programs that effectively include civil society or-
ganizations in their design, management, and implementation. In the spring of 1996, the com-
mittee requested the Bank’s management to organize an international learning event on social
In 1976, the American Thoracic Society (ATS) published brief guidelines for the investigation, diagnostic evaluation, and
medical treatment of TB contacts. Although investigation of contacts and treatment of infected contacts is an important component
of the U.S. strategy for TB elimination, second in priority to treatment of persons with TB disease, national guidelines have
not been updated since 1976.
When our committee began in the fall of 2000 to evaluate the potential of the Metropolitan Medical Response
System (MMRS) program to enhance local ability to respond to the consequences of weapons of mass destruction
terrorism, I could not have imagined the tragedies that would befall us as committee members and as a society.
Many of us on the committee have had personal losses from the assault on the World Trade Center and on our
sense of physical and psychological safety.
