The Mathematical Sciences Education Board (MSEB) of the National
Research Council was established in 1985 to provide national leadership
and guidance for policies, programs, and practices supporting the improvement
of mathematics education at all levels. Curriculum materials for grades
K-12 play a central role in what mathematics topics are taught in our
schools, how the topics are sequenced and presented to students, what
levels of understanding are expected, what skills students will develop and

Since the seminal study of Leland, Taqqu, Willinger, and Wilson , which set the groundwork for considering self-similarity an important notion in the understanding of network traffic including the modeling and analysis of network performance, an explosion of work has ensued investigating the multifaceted nature of this phenomenon.
2. The computational inter-relationships between data types are complex: eg rainfall/soil type/location/species. A Generic model can evaluate a variety of separate investment projects for a variety of users.

Organic expanders play an important role in the lead–acid battery. This study presents the design of an electrochemical method which evaluates the influence of some commercial expanders on the performance of the negative plate. Examination is made of different commercial expander formulations which are prepared in the laboratory under carefully controlled conditions.
The three restrictive-malabsorptive bypass procedures combine the elements of gastric restriction and selective malabsorption. These procedures include Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), biliopancreatic diversion (BPD), and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPDDS) (Fig. 75-2). RYGB is the most commonly performed and accepted bypass procedure. It may be performed with an open incision or laparoscopically.
Nam Dinh. is a big agricultural province in Red River delta of North Vietnam, where were planted three main agricultural products: rice, corn, peanut. By case-study investigation and energy analysis, the report put out detail information on biomass energy of rice straw, rice husk, com straw, corn core, peanut straw and total biomass energy from agricultural wastes in Nam Dinh province. According to investigation data, yearly the total agricultural wastes in Nam Dinh province is more than 1l million tons.
Studies assessing rating scales are very common in psychology and related fields, but are rare in NLP. In this paper we assess discrete and continuous scales used for measuring quality assessments of computergenerated language. We conducted six separate experiments designed to investigate the validity, reliability, stability, interchangeability and sensitivity of discrete vs. continuous scales. We show that continuous scales are viable for use in language evaluation, and offer distinct advantages over discrete scales. ...
This paper describes a novel method by which a dialogue agent can learn to choose an optimal dialogue strategy. While it is widely agreed that dialogue strategies should be formulated in terms of communicative intentions, there has been little work on automatically optimizing an agent's choices when there are multiple ways to realize a communicative intention. Our method is based on a combination of learning algorithms and empirical evaluation techniques.
Some studies are content with establishing simple correlations, while others
involve sophisticated econometric analysis, attempting to ascertain the existence and
direction of causality. Yet other studies involve complex systems with feedback loops or
large simulation models with scenario analysis. Inevitably, they reach different
conclusions even when they analyze the same body of data because of differences in
perspectives, levels of aggregation and methods of analysis.
Evaluation Methods in Medical Informatics, Second Edition is a heavily updated and revised volume based on editors Friedman and Wyatt's successful first edition. This book incorporates the solid foundation of evaluation theories, methods, and techniques laid out in the first edition, and builds on it to include case studies from real world situations. Designed as a guide for both the informatics novice and the seasoned professional seeking a comprehensive resource, this book explores information systems evaluation from the ground up.
There are two main types
of brain cancer. Primary brain cancer starts
in the brain. Metastatic brain cancer starts
somewhere else in the body and moves to the
brain. According to the American Brain Tumor
Association, brain tumors are the most common
of the solid tumors in children, and the second
most frequent malignancy of childhood.
Brain tumors are the second leading cause of
cancer-related deaths in males under 40 and
the second leading cause of cancer-related
deaths in females under age 20.
We have developed a system that generates evaluative arguments that are tailored to the user, properly arranged and concise. We have also developed an evaluation framework in which the effectiveness of evaluative arguments can be measured with real users. This paper presents the results of a formal experiment we have performed in our framework to verify the influence of argument conciseness on argument effectiveness In the remainder of the paper, we first describe a computational framework for generating evaluative arguments at different levels of conciseness. ...
We present an empirical study of the applicability of Probabilistic Lexicalized Tree Insertion Grammars (PLTIG), a lexicalized counterpart to Probabilistic Context-Free Grammars (PCFG), to problems in stochastic naturallanguage processing. Comparing the performance of PLTIGs with non-hierarchical N-gram models and PCFGs, we show that PLTIG combines the best aspects of both, with language modeling capability comparable to N-grams, and improved parsing performance over its nonlexicalized counterpart. Furthermore, training of PLTIGs displays faster convergence than PCFGs. ...
The process of survey development forces the board to think through and specify
criteria for evaluation, which the executive director can also see. Surveys can repeat
certain long-term questions annually, enabling the board and executive to monitor
changes over time. The survey assessment approach can also be helpful when an or-
ganization has not previously conducted an assessment and the board feels it needs
the perceptions of others beyond the board.
In Vietnam, project cycle management (PCM) of road investment projects consists of investment preparation, implementation, construction, and operation processes. The postevaluation of projects during operation has not yet been considered through PCM in a systematic and effective manner. This paper discussed project management issues of road infrastructure projects in Vietnam. Then the paper introduced the post-evaluation process for integrating into Vietnam’s PCM using the PCM methodology developed by Foundation for Advanced Studies on International Development (FASID).
