  • One of the more promising processes for the energetic transformation of waste is the anaerobic digestion of the Organic Fraction of Municipal Solid Waste. An experimental campaign was carried out on three different samples of OFMSW from Waste Separation, one as received and two obtained after mechanical treatment: OFMSW slurry (liquid fraction) and OFMSW Waste. Anaerobic Biogasification Potential and anaerobic digestion tests were carried out, investigating the effects of inoculum and pH. The OFMSW Waste was also examined to evaluate the possibility to dispose of it in a landfill.

  • Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two main periodontal diseases and may be present concurrently. Gingivitis is a form of periodontal disease in which gingival tissues are inflamed but their destruction is mild and reversible while periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory response to the subgingival bacteria with irreversible changes (Armitage, 1999). Periodontium destruction is characterized by loss of connective tissue attachment and bone around the teeth in conjunction with the formation of periodontal pockets due to apical migration of the junctional epithelium (Champagne et al.

  • that can occur during the various phases of oil and gas recovery from subsurface reservoirs including production, drilling, hydraulic fracturing, and workover operations. Formation damage assessment, control, and remediation are among the most important issues to be resolved for efficient exploitation of hydrocarbon reservoirs. Such damage is caused by various adverse processes, including chemical, physical, biological, and thermal interactions of formation and fluids, and deformation of formation under stress and fluid shear.

  • About one year ago the book “Chemical Micro Process Engineering – Fundamentals, Modelling, and Reactions” was released by the author team Hessel, Hardt and Löwe. It described the fundamentals of the new technology and presented in detail applications concerning organic and inorganic reactions as well as gas-phase reactions. Thus, it provided insights for the readers how mature are today’s micro reactors for real-world applications. What was missing is the processing before and after such experiments....

  • The aim of the study was to investigate the crystallization kinetics and solidification behaviour of Fe60Co8Mo5Zr10W2B15 bulk glass forming alloy. The solidification behaviour in near-equilibrium and non-equilibrium cooling conditions was studied. The eutectic and peritectic reactions were found to exist in the solidification sequence of the alloy. The bulk metallic glass formation was achieved by using two methods: quenching from the liquid state and quenching from the semi-state.

  • I have been familiar with plasma spraying in one of the leading thermal spray research laboratories in North America; Centre for Advanced Coating Technologies at the University of Toronto since I started my PhD thesis under supervision of Professors Javad Mostaghimi and Thomas W. Coyle in 2001. Having access to various methods of thermal spraying, diagnostic tools, and processes simulation, I gained experiences in process, deposition, characterization, and simulation of various types of thermal spray coatings....

The deduced protein (NaoA) of this gene con-tains 363 amino acids and has high similarity to several nitroalkane-oxidizing enzymes from various micro-organ-isms.ThenaoAgenewas subcloned intoanexpressionvector pET23b and overexpressed inEscherichia coliBL21(DE3). The protein was then purified, and its characteristics were studied. Experimental results showed that NaoA can con-vert 1-nitropropane, 2-nitropropane and nitroethane into the corresponding carbonyl compounds....

  • Originally, it was planned that there would be equal numbers of males and females and an equal number of students from the four faculties with the highest percentage of NESB students. However, as noted above, the opportunity to sit a free IELTS Test proved to be much more attractive to some students from some faculties than to others. There was no interest from students enrolled in the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, and a great deal of interest from students enrolled in the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health.

  • Sodium concentration in irrigation water replaces calcium by the process of Base Exchange, therefore reduces soil permeability. Furthermore, excess salinity in groundwater used for irrigation decreased plants osmotic activity and interfere water absorption and nutrients from the soil. Nearly 5% of groundwater from the study site exceeds the desirable limit (1000 mg L-1) of chloride. The natural source of chloride is due to the weathering of phosphate mineral apatite present in granites.
