This book explores four overlapping themes in biogeography among multiple plant
and animal groups, across subcontinental to global spatial scales, and over
evolutionary time. These four themes include: 1) biogeographic theory and tests of
concepts and processes; 2) the regional biogeography of individual taxa; 3) historical
and contemporary biogeography of complex landscapes; and 4) the evolutionary
biogeography of macrotaxa.
In the first chapter of the conceptual biogeography section, Khalid Al Mutairi et al.
smartpower also learned from over seven years of message research in the area of renew-
able energy and energy efficiency that the “environmental” message is not the answer to
motivate consumers to purchase renewable energy technologies. Consumers already under-
stand the environmental benefits of solar power, but those benefits have not been persua-
sive enough to broaden market adoption.
This report uses a new methodology for profiling sectors, building a picture of the LCEGS sector from
the bottom up, rather than from the top down as is traditionally the case.
Using a full sector analysis model (see Box 2.
One of the unique f iscal agency functions that the Reserve Banks provide
to the Treasury is a program through which the Reserve Banks invest
Treasury monies until needed to fund the government’s operations. The
Treasury receives funds from two principal sources: tax receipts and bor-
rowings. The funds that f low into and out of the government’s account
vary in amount throughout the year; for example, the account balance
tends to be relatively high during the April tax season.
Some companies let you use your life insurance death benefit to pay for
specific conditions such as terminal illness or for qualified long-term care
expenses such as home health care, assisted living or nursing home care. A
life insurance death benefit you use while you are alive is known as an
accelerated death benefit. A life insurance policy that uses an accelerated
death benefit to pay for long-term care expenses may also be known as a
“life/long-term care” policy. It may be an individual or a group life
Duplicate PHI has provided financing for capacity development in the private hospital sector in
some countries, thereby helping to alleviating consumer inconvenience generated by non-price rationing in
public hospitals. Only a few OECD countries have both long waiting times and high levels of population
covered by PHI. Australia has especially emphasised the role private cover plays as the main mechanism
for shifting demand away from overburdened public hospitals, while Ireland has instead placed more
emphasis on the role of the public system in addressing waiting concerns.
Other retailers would rather save the time and money
spent on trade shows and have sellers with wonderful
products contact them directly via email so that they can
concentrate on ‘minding the store.’ If you decide to
contact retailers directly be sure to send excellent photos
and pricing information. All of the retailers we spoke to
stressed the importance of the story behind the product.
The stories of your products, your producers and the
species you are working to conserve are very important in
building a relationship with green consumers.
“Structured products” are one of the fastest growing areas in the financial
services industry, and may already be over half of the notional size of the
hedge fund industry (AUM plus leverage). These products, constructed by
investment banks, are extremely complex using synthetic option replication
techniques, and offering a variety of guarantees in returns. They are sold to
retail, private banking and institutional clients. Hedge funds help reduce
volatility risk for investment banks in supplying these products. ...
The remit of the long-term care insurance funds is to ensure the supply of permanent care for
their insured and to eliminate shortcomings in quality. They consequently control the quality
of the care supplied. Nevertheless, their ability to ensure the supply of care is limited by the
fact that they have no appropriate influence on the creation, promotion or maintenance of an
LTC infrastructure. This task is assigned to the states. Furthermore, the LTC transfers are paid
by the insurance funds.
We expect the overall trend of declining household size to persist.
This is supported by an analysis of a panel of 38 countries over
time: by the year 2027 on average 3.8 people will live in a Turkish
household – still significantly more than in west European house-
Furthermore, we have assumed a slowdown in migration as push
and pull factors for moving are weakening.
Variation in the morphology of the adult male reproductive system among different groups of
Hymenoptera offer characteristics that help studies of behavior and the evolutionary history of
this group. The objective of this study was to describe the adult male reproductive system of the
wasp Polistes versicolor versicolor Olivier (Vespidae: Polistini). The reproductive systems were
dissected, fixed and embedded for light microscopy. In P. v. versicolor, the reproductive system
includes a pair of testes, each one with three fusiform follicles.
A recent government health survey found that 1 to 5 per cent of elderly people who drank
more than occasionally were ‘problem drinkers’, reporting significant psychological and/or
physical dependence on alcohol.
Other studies have found higher proportions of elderly problem drinkers, especially in men.
One found 5 - 12 per cent of men in their 60’s to have alcohol problems.
In addition to this, health measures
typically used in empirical studies may be affected by endogenous reporting behaviour. The outcome of a
direct question to an individual’s health status may depend on the labour market status of the respondent.
There may be economic motives or it may be the case that individual’s are inclined to give their answer
conform to social norms. Reporting health as a major determinant for inactivity is socially more accepted,
and eligibility conditions for some Social Security Benefits, notably Disability Insurance ...
Bertrand and Mullainathan (1998) illustrate the potential
power of designs that consider interactions across governance
mechanisms. They examine the impact on executive
compensation of changes in states’ anti-takeover legislation.
Adoption of anti-takeover legislation presumably reduces
pressure on top managers. They attempt to distinguish
between optimal contracting and skimming theories in
explaining observed contracting arrangements.

With regard to the marketing mix concept (Kotler 1997), particularly the establishment of sound
price models for digital information is anything but simple (Shapiro and Varian 1999). Successful
enterprises will be those who approach pricing as an act of innovation (Jonason 2001), recognizing that
profit opportunities lie in aligning the price with customer perceived value (Morris and Morris 1990),
instead of taking a flawed determinant for the price, like for example the number of geographic
features or the size of the geographic area requested by the user.
Ultrasound cannot be heard by humans as the human ear does not pick up
frequencies above 20 kHz. Some animals, including dogs, dolphins and some
insects can hear ultrasound. Bats have the best hearing capabilities as they
not only hear ultrasound but they also generate it and can determine their
location from the echoes.
Ultrasonics is used in a wide variety of technical and medical applications.
The echo depth sounder is a device that uses the reflection of sound or
ultrasonics to determine the water depth.
The Fund’s exposure to liquidity risk is concentrated in
the daily cash redemptions of shares. The Fund primarily
invests in securities that are traded in active markets
and can be readily disposed. In addition, the Fund
retains sufficient cash and cash equivalent positions
to maintain liquidity. The Fund may, from time to
time, enter into over-the-counter derivative contracts
or invest in unlisted securities, which are not traded
in an organized market and may be illiquid.
The pre-service teachers in the writing methods course learned about the history of
writing instruction and writing theories, writers’ workshops and the use of various
types of journals. They were also introduced to the role of literature and methods for
integrating oral skills into literacy instruction. In addition to these materials, I
reviewed sample ESL student essays to illustrate techniques for providing feedback
on student writing.
