Another example is the Law on Healthcare in Georgia18 , which states ‘Human cloning through the use of genetic engineering methods shall be prohibited’.

  • The only impact evaluations the IDB has are beneficiary evaluations; that is, the IDB asks the beneficiaries in the communities how they evalu- ate what they received: Was it working correctly? Did they like it? Was the choice an adequate one? Was the project sustainable? The IDB study summarized about 800 project visits in various countries in which this sort of beneficiary evaluation was done, and in general, the beneficiary evaluations are quite positive. School projects have the highest evalua- tions even if a few schools that were built are not operating.

Linear striations on the surface of the planes allow for the enjoyment of both spatial and temporal experiences simultaneously, while suggesting the possibility of infinite continuity. • The literature on aesthetic labour provides some definitions. Martin describes aesthetic labour as ‘the requirement to have the management-determined mix of appearance, age, weight, class, and accent characteristics.’(2001, 106). He cites the work from Strathclyde University with ‘a hotel seeking to project a total image concept, with the hotel building representing the hardware and the staff the software’ (2001, 106). He remarks further that staff are expected to mould themselves into the required characteristics.

  • The purging device must be designed to accept 5 mL samples with a water column at least 3 cm deep. The gaseous head space between the water column and the trap must have a total volume of less than 15 mL. The purge gas must pass though the water column as finely divided bubbles with a diameter of less than 3 mm at the origin. The purge gas must be introduced no more than 5 mm from the base of the water column. The purging device illustrated in Figure 1 meets these design criteria.

  • Furthermore, debt management policies can be all the more effective in the special case of the zero lower bound (ZLB). This is because policies aimed at shortening the duration of debt held by the public (ie selling Treasury bills and buying government bonds) may lower long-term yields without raising short-term yields, which are glued close to zero at the ZLB. But note that the corollary of the ZLB argument on its own is a policy asymmetry. Central banks may need to buy government bonds when at the ZLB if they want to stimulate demand. But they have no need to...

  • Some particles may be absorbed into the tree but most are retained on the plant surface. Some particles will be re-suspended, but others will be washed off (particularly soluble particulates) or fall with leaves or twig fall. This may lead to pollution within the soil, however, Beckett et al. (2000a) argues that this will only be a major problem in countries using a high proportion of lead fuel. Re-suspension of fine particulates is less likely as they are easier embedded1 within the leaf boundary layer (Beckett et al., 2000b).

  • It started with our children. Trying to get them to study without the TV and radio was rarely successful. (We succeeded—temporarily—when the house had been struck by lightning and almost all the household electronics were “fried.”) Trying to concentrate with the stereo on drove us crazy, but didn’t seem to have any impact on them. None of our dire predictions about poor grades materialized. We probably rented as many games from Blockbuster as we did videos. At one point we thought we’d better find out what these games were all about. They let us try a game—something to do with...

  • This lab will be a command center should terrorists ever strike California’s drinking water supply. Ditto if any other water-borne contaminant starts making people sick. But the real bread-and-butter work done here is much more mundane than that. It’s the daily testing for things like mercury, lead, E. coli -- contaminants all water agencies routinely test for. And that list is growing, says Scott, as he opens the door to a small, mostly empty laboratory.

  • Propagating information about materialized views: When a query is posed, the first step is to consider whether it can be answered using the data at “nearby” storage providers, and to evaluate the costs of doing so. This requires the query initiator to be aware of existing materialized views and properties such as location and data freshness. One direction we are exploring is to propagate information about materialized views using techniques derived from routing protocols [14]. In particular, a node advertises its materialized views to its neighbors.
