  • The molecular carbon dioxide laser was invented in 1964 by C. K. N. Patel at Bell Labs. Immediately, it proved to be a high-power, continuous wave (CW) laser and a relatively high-efficiency gas laser (20-25% conversion of electrical energy into laser radiation), both in CW or pulsed operation. As a matter of fact, the CO2 lasers are the highest-power CW lasers (more than 100 kW) and one of the highest-energy pulsed gas laser (100 kJ) that are currently available.

  • Cordyceps gunnii (berk.) Berk (C. Gunnii) is well known as a Chinese rare caterpillar fungus and has similar pharmacological activity with C. sinensis. In this work, a high-molecular-weight polysaccharide (CPS) was isolated and purified from the mycelia of C. gunnii. The total sugar content of CPS was amounted to 92.84%. The result of HPLC indicated that CPS was a homogeneous polysaccharide. The estimated average molecular weight of CPS was 3.72 ×106 Da. The specific rotation of CPS was recorded [˛]25 D = +134.2◦.

  • In this paper we present a quantitative and qualitative analysis of annotation in the Hinoki treebank of Japanese, and investigate a method of speeding annotation by using part-of-speech tags. The Hinoki treebank is a Redwoods-style treebank of Japanese dictionary definition sentences. 5,000 sentences are annotated by three different annotators and the agreement evaluated. An average agreement of 65.4% was found using strict agreement, and 83.5% using labeled precision. Exploiting POS tags allowed the annotators to choose the best parse with 19.5% fewer decisions. ...

  • While the average performance of statistical parsers gradually improves, they still attach to many sentences annotations of rather low quality. The number of such sentences grows when the training and test data are taken from different domains, which is the case for major web applications such as information retrieval and question answering. In this paper we present a Sample Ensemble Parse Assessment (SEPA) algorithm for detecting parse quality.

  • Average depth model has a variety of applications in hydraulic engineering, especially in applications that flow depth is much smaller than the width of the flow. In this method the vertical variation is negligible and the hydraulic variables average integrated from channel bed to the surface free for the vertical axis. in equations arising management, pure hydrostatic pressure is assumed that not really valid in the case of flow in the bed is curved and can not be described curvature effects of the bed.

  • HUMAN CAPITAL GAINS: HOW THE INVESTMENT AND ALLOCATION OF HUMAN CAPITAL AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF HIGH TECHNOLOGY INITIAL PUBLIC OFFERING FIRMS A second reason is that schools in more stratified markets are likely to be more internally homogenous; as the sampling variance of the school average depends linearly on the within-school variance of individual characteristics, more internally homogenous schools imply more reliable schoollevel averages.

  • Consistent with the results of the Bechara study, our subjects gradually concentrated their choices on deck B (Fig. 2). The beginning phase of the task was an exploratory period in which both populations sampled each deck equally. For the next 20 draws subjects shifted towards deck B drawing on average 8 of the 20 cards from deck A. In the final 10 draws both groups largely abandoned deck A: on average the younger subjects chose deck A two times of 10 and the older subjects chose deck A three times of 10. In summary both populations appear to have adapted the same way to the payoffs....

  • Long term interest rates play an important role in economics and Önance due to their impact on real activity. Nevertheless, it is widely recognized that forecasting their level is di¢ cult. In the same way, modelling their link to monetary policy is not so easy even if this relationship appears crucial, as emphasized by Goodfriend (1993) for the United States. Similarly the same di¢ culty concerns the rational expectations hypothesis framework in which most empirical analyses of the term structure of interest rates are conducted.

  • Medical loss ratio likely to lead to rebates: This year, health insurers must either meet the new minimum loss ratio requirements by spending at least 80 percent of premiums on care and quality improvement or offer customers rebates in 2012. Already, 75 million Americans in plans covered by this rule are benefiting from insurers’ efforts to lower administrative costs and increase the value of their coverage. We estimate, in the small group market, one million enrollees could receive rebates averaging $312 per enrollee.

  • Dictionaries and scholars have offered a variety of definitions. The Merriam-Webster dictionary offers a definition of the term: "the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area" and "a capability given by the practical application of knowledge".[1] Ursula Franklin, in her 1989 "Real World of Technology" lecture, gave another definition of the concept; it is "practice, the way we do things around here".[7] The term is often used to imply a specific field of technology, or to refer to high technology or just consumer electronics, rather than technology as a whole.

  • The human species' use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into simple tools. The prehistorical discovery of the ability to control fire increased the available sources of food and the invention of the wheel helped humans in travelling in and controlling their environment. Recent technological developments, including the printing press, the telephone, and the Internet, have lessened physical barriers to communication and allowed humans to interact freely on a global scale.

  • Under the SRA and cuts specified in the 2008 farm bill, the reimbursement rate for A&O expenses averaged 18% of total premiums in 2009. 16 This means that for every $100 in premiums collected, the companies receive a reimbursement of $18 from the federal government. The reimbursement rate varies by insurance product, depending on whether it is for a yield-based or a revenue insurance product. The SRA places a maximum for A&O reimbursements at $1.3 billion per year (adjusted annually for inflation) and a minimum at $1.1 billion.
