(BQ) Part 1 book "Histology at a glance" presents the following contents: Preparation of tissues for histology, sectioning and appearance of sections in the light microscope, light and electron microscopes, the cell and its components, cell division, cardiac and smooth muscle,...
(BQ) Part 1 book "Histology text and atlas" presents the following contents: Tissue preparation for histological study, getting oriented to the sectional planes, epithelia and glands , connective tissue, cartilage.
Epithelial mucins are large complex cell surface and secreted glycoproteins produced by
mucosal epithelial cells. Mucins are a major component of the interface between the external
world and mucosal tissues, where they provide lubrication, hydration, and a biological
and physical barrier to potential toxins, particles, and pathogens. Mucins provide many
challenges to researchers due to their large size, complex biochemical nature, and the viscous
gels that they form when secreted.
The molecular analysis of human cancer is complicated by the difficulty in
obtaining pure populations of tumor cells to study. One traditional method of
obtaining a pure representation has been establishing cancer cell lines from
primary tumors. However, this technique is time consuming and of low yield.
Artifacts of cell culture include the selection of genetic alterations not present
in primary tumors (1,2) and the alteration of gene expression as compared to
primary tumors (3).
Harrison's Internal Medicine Part 2. Cardinal Manifestations and Presentation of Diseases Section 9. Alterations in the Skin Chapter 53. Eczema, Psoriasis, Cutaneous Infections, Acne, and Other Common Skin Disorders Eczema and Dermatitis
Eczema and Dermatitis: Introduction
Eczema is a type of dermatitis and these terms are often used synonymously (atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis). Eczema is a reaction pattern that presents with variable clinical findings and the common histologic finding of spongiosis (intercellular edema of the epidermis).
Endometriosis is a common gynaecological condition that sometimes presents to general surgeons as a lump in the abdomen. It can pose a diagnostic dilemma and should be in the differential diagnosis of lumps in the abdomen in females. Diagnosis is usually made on histology. We discuss a case of recurrent abdominal wall endometriosis following caesarian section. The incidence, pathophysiology, course, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this condition are also reviewed.
Eczema is a type of dermatitis and these terms are often used synonymously (atopic eczema or atopic dermatitis). Eczema is a reaction pattern that presents with variable clinical findings and the common histologic finding of spongiosis (intercellular edema of the epidermis). Eczema is the final common expression for a number of disorders, including those discussed in the following sections. Primary lesions may include erythematous macules, papules, and vesicles, which can coalesce to form patches and plaques.
