  • The feature of polyimides and other heterocyclic polymers are now well-established and used for long term temperature durability in the range of 250 - 350'C. This book will review synthesis, mechanisms, ultimate properties, physico-chemical properties, processing and applications of such high performance materials needed in advanced technologies. It presents interdisciplinary papers on the state of knowledge of each topic under consideration through a combination of overviews and original unpublished research.

  • A new Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Board was appointed in May 2010. It was tasked with the downsizing the RBZ’s huge staff complement; restoring the RBZ’s position as the lender of last resort; and putting in place committees for monetary policy and audit. About 1,455 staff of the RBZ (75% of total staff) were retrenched in January 2011 in the largest such exercise since independence. In addition, the RBZ is disposing of its non-core assets in sectors such as mining, consistent with the RBZ Act.

  • Notwithstanding that the AIFM must be able to provide both functions in order to be authorised, it may choose to delegate the portfolio management and/or the risk management function. In such cas- es, and as set out above, the delegation of these functions should comply with the rules set out under Article 20 of the AIFMD and the relevant Level 2 measures. Therefore, the liability of the AIFM will not be affected by the fact that the AIFM has delegated the portfolio management and/or risk man- agement functions to a third party, or by any further sub-delegation.

  • The artist’s means of achieving much with little in his sculpture first involves the execution of a small-scale maquette usually made of polyurethane. When completed, this model appears to have been formed simply from an attenuated bar that has been twisted, bent, stretched, curved, coiled, or knotted according to the sculptor’s whim. From the miniature working model of Upstart 2, Meadmore executed a reduced version, measuring twenty-five and a half inches high, in an edition of four strikes. The monumental version at Princeton is made of Cor-Ten steel.

  • The International Institute for Sustainable Development contributes to sustainable development by advancing policy recommendations on international trade and investment, economic policy, climate change and energy, measurement and assessment, and sustainable natural resources management. Through the Internet, we report on international negotiations and share knowledge gained through collaborative projects with global partners, resulting in more rigorous research, capacity building in developing countries and better dialogue between North and South.

  • In 2011, the Blacksmith Institute and Green Cross Switzerland published a report that began to quantify the burden of disease from industries using a single site, beginning the process of measuring health impacts. This report revisits that process but goes a step further. Using additional data the 2012 report estimates the total health impact from toxic industrial pollutants in 49 countries in the developing world, extrapolating health impacts to provide a better understanding of the true scope of the issue.

  • Temporal variations in indoor VOC concentrations in the house likely were affected by changes in the sources with age and in the house parameters, principally air change rate, temperature and relative humidity. Air change rates in the house, which was operated at a single defined condition for all the sampling periods, were affected by wind speed and temperature conditions. At low wind speed conditions (wind speed

  • A study to measure indoor concentrations and emission rates of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including formaldehyde, was conducted in a new, unoccupied manufactured house installed at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) campus. The house was instrumented to continuously monitor indoor temperature and relative humidity, heating and air conditioning system operation, and outdoor weather. It also was equipped with an automated tracer gas injection and detection system to estimate air change rates every 2 h.

  • The energy crisis of the mid 1970’s gave birth to a movement to conserve energy. Over the ensuing years much has been done to reduce the energy consumption of new and existing buildings. Lighting efficiency has improved so much that today we use ½ the wattage without sacrificing lumens. Improved construction methods, better insulation and high efficiency windows have also helped reduce energy consumption. However, all of these measures have resulted in a reduction of Sensible heat gains while Latent heat gains have increased.

  • The current study was undertaken in a new manufactured house set up as a research facility. The plan was to conduct longitudinal measurements of VOC concentrations in the house along with measurements of key physical parameters including house air change rate, indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity, and wind conditions over a period of approximately one year. The primary objective was to evaluate changes in the emissions of formaldehyde and other VOCs in response to time, house air change rate, and the other parameters.

  • In addition to ventilation, indoor temperature and humidity conditions, which can change both diurnally and seasonally, have the potential to substantially affect the emissions of VOCs from building materials and alter occupant exposure. In large-scale chamber experiments with new carpet systems, sheet vinyl flooring and wall paint, the air temperature was increased from 23 o C to about 30 o C over a period of 60 h (Hodgson, 1999).

  • Immunization coverage has been regarded an one of the parameters for measuring the effe ctiveness of the health programme of organization to the plight of the displaced persons, particularly, children. It could be observed from the table (Table 2) that immunization coverage was substantial for meningitis (34.72%) followed by measles (20.65). Lafia town is naturally both humid and hot and so, the relatively high level of immunization with cerebrospinal meningitis antigen is a justifiable preventive action by the state government.
