Over the past 20 years, technological advances in molecular biology have
proven invaluable to the understanding of the pathogenesis of human cancer.
The application of molecular technology to the study of cancer has not only
led to advances in tumor diagnosis, but has also provided markers for the
assessment of prognosis and disease progression. The aim of Molecular Analysis
of Cancer is to provide a comprehensive collection of the most up-to-date
techniques for the detection of molecular changes in human cancer.
This book synthesizes current research in the integration of computational intelligence and pattern analysis techniques, either individually or in a hybridized manner. The purpose is to analyze biological data and enable extraction of more meaningful information and insight from it. Biological data for analysis include sequence data, secondary and tertiary structure data, and microarray data.
We propose a hybrid approach to coordinate structure analysis that combines a simple grammar to ensure consistent global structure of coordinations in a sentence, and features based on sequence alignment to capture local symmetry of conjuncts. The weight of the alignmentbased features, which in turn determines the score of coordinate structures, is optimized by perceptron training on a given corpus. A bottom-up chart parsing algorithm efficiently finds the best scoring structure, taking both nested or nonoverlapping flat coordinations into account. ...
Five healthy adult female first-generation hybrid tree frogs were produced
by interspecific breeding of closely related tree frogsLitoria splendidaand
L. caeruleain a cage containing large numbers of males and females of
both species. Phylogenetic analysis of mitochondrial DNA sequences estab-lished the female parent to be L. splendida.
The main contents of this chapter include all of the following: Sequence-specific DNA fragmentation, cloning fragments of DNA, hybridization, the polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequence analysis, bioinformatics: information technology and genomes, the hemoglobin genes: a comprehensive example.
Thermotoga maritimaribonuclease H (RNase H) I (Tma-RNase HI) con-tains a hybrid binding domain (HBD) at the N-terminal region. To analyze
the role of this HBD, Tma-RNase HI, Tma-W22A with the single mutation
at the HBD, the C-terminal RNase H domain (Tma-CD) and the N-termi-nal domain containing the HBD (Tma-ND) were overproduced inEscheri-chia coli, purified and biochemically characterized.
The reuteransucrase enzymes ofLactobacillus reuteristrain 121 (GTFA)
andL. reuteristrain ATCC 55730 (GTFO) convert sucrose into a-d-glu-cans (labelled reuterans) with mainlya-(1fi4) glucosidic linkages (50% and
70%, respectively), plusa-(1fi6) linkages. In the present study, we report a
detailed analysis of various hybrid GTFA⁄O enzymes, resulting in the iden-
The two-hybrid method detects the interaction of two proteins by their
ability to reconstitute the activity of a split transcription factor, thus allow-ing the use of a simple growth selection in yeast to identify new inter-actions. Since its introduction about 15 years ago, the assay largely has
been applied to single proteins, successfully uncovering thousands of novel
This book focuses on the basic electrochemical applications of DNA in various areas, from basic principles to the most recent discoveries. The book comprises theoretical and experimental analysis of various properties of nucleic acids, research methods, and some promising applications.
This volume contains a refereed selection of papers, which were first presented at the international conference on Numerical Methods for Finance held in Dublin, Ireland in June 2006 and were then submitted for publication. The refereeing procedure was carried out by members of the International Steering Committee, the Local Organizing Committee and the Editors. The aim of the conference was to attract leading researchers, both practitioners and academics, to discuss new and relevant numerical methods for the solution of practical problems in finance.
The mitigation of earthquake-related hazards represents a key role in the modern society. The mitigation of such kind of hazards spans from detailed studies on seismicity, evaluation of site effects, and seismo-induced landslides, tsunamis as well as and the design and analysis of structures to resist such actions. The study of earthquakes ties together science, technology and expertise in infrastructure and engineering in an effort to minimize human and material losses when they inevitably occur.
Coordinate covalent bonds: a bond formed when both electrons of the bond are donated by one atom. [H3N: Ag :NH3]+ Ag+ + 2(:NH3) Electron configuration of Ag [Kr]4d105s15P0 Ag+ [Kr]4d105s0 5P0
Sp hybrid orbitals: accommodate 2 pairs of electrons. Linear Complex ion: A metal ion with Lewis base attached to it through coordinate covalent bond. Complex (Coordinate compound): a compound consisting either of complex ions and other ions of opposite charge or of neutral complex species.

With rapid advancements in computing power, computer modeling and simulations
have become an important complement to experimentations in many areas of research
as well as industrial applications. The Discrete Event Simulation (DES) method has
received widespread attention and acceptance by both researchers and practitioners in
recent years. The range of application of DES spans across many different disciplines
and research fields.
Research shows that sensational news stories as well as popular romance novels
often feature themes related to important topics in evolutionary psychology. In the first of
four studies described in this paper we examined the song lyrics from three Billboard
charts: Country, Pop, and R&B. A content analysis of the lyrics revealed 18 reproductive
themes that read like an outline for a course in evolutionary psychology. Approximately
92% of the 174 songs that made it into the Top Ten in 2009 contained one or more
reproductive messages, with an average of 10.49 reproductive...
The pricing of credit-sensitive bonds, that is, bonds which have a significant probability of
default, is an issue of increasing academic and practical importance. The recent practice in
financial markets has been to issue high yield corporate bonds that are a hybrid of equity and
risk-free debt. Also, to an extent, most corporate bonds are credit-sensitive instruments,
simply because of the limited liability of the issuing enterprise. In this paper, we suggest and
implement a model for the pricing of options on credit-sensitive bonds.
The data described above allow us to calculate the number of
years of a given student’s early childhood in which television sig-
nals were available. In order to make the magnitudes we measure
in the analysis below more easily interpretable, we will also use
data on the rate at which television ownership actually diffused
among households in each county. We will use the term televi-
sion exposure to refer to the expected number of years a child’s
household owned a television during the child’s preschool years.
