MPEG-7 will deﬁne a certain set of descriptors to describe these features. For example, the color histogram can be a very suitable descriptor for color characteristics of an image, and motion vectors (commonly available in compressed video bitstreams) form a useful descriptor for motion characteristics of a video clip. MPEG-7 also uses the concept of description scheme (DS), which means a framework that deﬁnes the descriptors and their relationships. Hence, the descriptors are the basis of a description scheme. Description then implies an instantiation of a description scheme.
This book describes applications in preclinical oncology research by bioluminescence imaging (BLI) with a variety of applications. Chapters describe current methodologies for rapid detection of contaminants using the Milliflex system, and the use of bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) technology for monitoring physical interactions between proteins in living cells.
In various applications, we often haveto deal with sets of images of a certain type; for example,X-rayimages, traffic sceneimages,etc.Eachimage in the set may be different from all the others, but at the same time all images may share certain common characteristics. We need the statistical description of images so that we capture these common characteristics and use them in order to represent an image with fewer bits and reconstruct it with the minimum error “on average”.
An effective separation method of very pure binder fraction to assess radiocarbon dating is
proposed in the present contribution. The elimination of contaminant error sources and the
suitable selection of mortar samples enable the reliable dating. Petrographic analysis under
polarizing light microscopy is used to identify different mineralogical phases of mortar
samples, aggregate nature, and the limestone fragment remains.

Background: Vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1) is an adhesion molecule that plays a key role in recruiting leucocytes into sites of inflammation.
Dyspnea is the subjective sensation of uncomfortable or difficult breathing. Most patients report dyspnea as
"shortness of breath." Patients report dyspnea when their breathing is excessive for the activity that they are
doing. The sensation of dyspnea is produced by stimulation of both central and peripheral receptors that
monitor respiratory muscle activity, hypoxia, hypercapnia, acid-base status, airway irritation, and changes in
the pressure volume characteristics of the lung (i.e., j receptors in lung fibrosis or emphysema).
When consumers buy products like for instance food products, they make
choices by comparing price and quality among alternatives|e.g. a standard
product and an animal-welfare oriented variant. The choice between product
variants is inﬂuenced by the available information channels and the related

At this writing the Cassini spacecraft has fired its engine and successfully inserted

The Particle Image Velocimetry is undoubtedly one of the most important technique in
Fluid-dynamics since it has a spatial character that allows to obtain a direct and
instantaneous visualization of the flow field in a non-intrusive way. It represents the
point of arrival of an intense research on the laser techniques and its origin dates back
at the beginning of 80’s when Meynart, a doctoral student of the Von Karman Institute,
while explorying the Laser Speckle Velocimetry technique, guessed the importance of
capturing the movements of individual particles instead of speckles.
The demand of transmission of images and video is increasing quickly recently and researchers are trying to invest good solutions to improve the quality of these over wireless networks. There are still challenges due to the different characteristics and quality of images between wired and wireless channels. An important issue is congestion control to ensure network stability and achieve a reasonably fair distribution of the network resources among the users.
The extreme price volatility of recent years may continue, as many of the factors that caused recent price swings
remain in flux. FAPRI-MU recognizes this uncertainty and considers 500 alternative outcomes for the future based on
different assumptions about the weather, the price of petroleum and other factors that will affect the supply and
demand for agricultural commodities. The tables which follow generally report the averages of the 500 alternative
outcomes, but it is important to recognize that actual market results may vary greatly from the reported averages.
We studied theoretically and experimentally the transformation, attenuation, and setup due to shoaling and breaking of internal waves in a two-layer fluid system on a uniform slope. An image processing technique was used to illustrate 2D instantaneous displacements of density interface. These results were compared with the calculated values by using the method of characteristics, the simple shoaling model with energy dissipation, and the momentum balance equation based on a radiation stress concept.
Statistics alone do not tell us why mortality or coverage rates are rising or falling,
nor suggest which policy responses are appropriate. Chapters 2-7 of this report
look beyond the target-by-target information and attempt to identify trends,
successes, and failures which are currently affecting the health sector as a whole.
Some of the challenges are fundamental, and characteristic of poverty and lack
of development in general, although many are specific to health.
