  • We introduce cause identification, a new problem involving classification of incident reports in the aviation domain. Specifically, given a set of pre-defined causes, a cause identification system seeks to identify all and only those causes that can explain why the aviation incident described in a given report occurred. The difficulty of cause identification stems in part from the fact that it is a multi-class, multilabel categorization task, and in part from the skewness of the class distributions and the scarcity of annotated reports. ...

  • Operating theatres are frightening places, a foreign environment where highly specialized techniques that involve opening and invading a human body take place. As such, they present unique challenges for both those who use them, and those who work there. For children who require surgery and their families, the surgical environment is potentially one in which consideration must be given to the whole psychosocial aspect of care, even more so than in any other hospital environment.

  • For example, it has been shown that depressed patients are three times more likely not to comply with medical regimens than non-depressed patients; there is also evidence that depression predicts the incidence of heart disease. In the case of infectious diseases, non-adherence can lead to drug resistance, and this has profound public health implications concerning resistant infec- tious agents. Illness-associated depression impairs quality of life and several aspects of the functioning of patients with chronic diseases; moreover, it results in higher health care utilization and costs.

  • The report brings home the reality that the HIV prevalence in South Africa among persons aged 2 years and older at 10.8% translates to 4.8 million people living with HIV/AIDS in 2005. Factors underpinning continued high HIV prevalence are partly illustrated by the finding that half of the respondents in this study who were found to be HIV positive did not think they were at risk of HIV infection. It considers HIV/AIDS stigma, the integration of family planning and HIV/AIDS service, and the existing HIV/AIDS communication campaigns.

In particular its fl agship, the Standard Form of Building Contract, in its various versions is popular where works are of more than minimal complexity; and to the extend that the industry can be said to adopt a norm, the administrative principles of the JCT Standard Form appear to be the nucleus of that norm. However, use of the Standard Form has been dogged by a high incidence of disputes.

  • By the Snell law of reflection, a light ray incident upon a reflective surface will be reflected at an angle equal to the incident angle. Both angles are measured with respect to the normal to the surface. If a light ray emanates from O in the direction x ∈ S n−1 , and A is a perfectly reflecting surface, then the reflected ray has direction: (1.1) x∗ = T (x) = x − 2 x, ν ν, where ν is the outer normal to A at the point where the light ray hits A.

  • Paraplegia remains a potential complication of spinal cord ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI) in which oxidative stress induced cyclooxygenase activities may contribute to ischemic neuronal damage. Prolonged administration of vitamin E (α-TOL), as a potent biological antioxidant, may have a protective role in this oxidative inflammatory ischemic cascade to reduce the incidence of paraplegia. The present study was designed to evaluate the preventive value of α-TOL in IRI of spinal cord.

  • The relationship with local governments and local communities is a new concept accompanying the idea of decentralization. In Bolivia, citizen participation is a condition for receiving fund support. Not only is it a condition, but increasingly municipalities have to cofinance projects. Cen- tral governments are transferring resources to the municipalities, and citizen participation decides which projects the municipality wants to cofinance. Cofinancing is realigning the funds with communities, and it is helping them to prepare development plans....

So young married women rarely have an independent income, nor do they have direct access to the household's resources. Even if they separate their household from their husband’s parents, they rarely control resources, often merely implementing subsistence budgetary strategies.
