This 1993 document entitled "Assessment of Sources of Air, Water, and Land Pollution: A Guide to Rapid Source Inventory Techniques" provides techniques for conducting source inventories in Chapter 2 and describes models for estimating air emissions under current controls in Chapter 3. Appendix II includes the United Nations (UN) classification of industries and services.

The UK Government and devolved administrations are committed to delivering clean
air for a good quality of life. We have come a long way since the smogs of the 1950s. We
have achieved cleaner air through regulating emissions from industrial processes, progressively
tightening emissions and fuel standards for road vehicles and controlling smoke from domestic
premises. But there are still sometimes levels of pollution that can significantly harm human
health and the environment.
The beginning of this book was university lecture notes and training material for process
engineers. Although it now is a lot more comprehensive, it has been our intention to
maintain a mixed academic and industrial approach to the various subjects. Our motivation
for writing this book has been the need for a text covering the full range from the underlying
physics to the process applications of radioisotope gauges. We could not deal with all
subjects in detail; however, we have included references to many excellent books and
articles where further details can be found....
This text-book is intended for college and high-school classes. Most of the facts stated in it have become,
through the researches and publications of recent years, such commonplace knowledge that a reference to
authority in each case has not seemed necessary. Statements on more doubtful points, and such personal
opinions as I have had occasion to express, although not supported by references, are based on a somewhat

This paper examines the pollution control policies applied in China’s paper industry during the period of economic reform from 1982 to 1992. The paper industry is the source of ten percent of China’s industrial wastewater emissions and one fourth of its chemical oxygen demand. It is the largest source of rural environmental pollution.
