This 1993 document entitled "Assessment of Sources of Air, Water, and Land Pollution: A Guide to Rapid Source Inventory Techniques" provides techniques for conducting source inventories in Chapter 2 and describes models for estimating air emissions under current controls in Chapter 3. Appendix II includes the United Nations (UN) classification of industries and services.
Oil and gas are the most important non-renewable sources of energy. Exploring, producing and managing these resources in compliance with HSE standards are challenging tasks. New technologies, workflows and procedures have to be implemented. This book deals with some of these themes and describes some of the advanced technologies related to the oil and gas industry from HSE to field management issues. Some new technologies for geo-modeling, transient well testing and digital rock physics are also introduced. There are many more technical topics to be addressed in future books.
As populations increase and countries industrialize, the world’s
demand for energy increases. Our supply of petroleum and gas is limited,
but the photovoltaic cell offers a solution to the problem of a future energy
shortage. This cell is already an important source of energy. In fact, it seems
almost like magic. The photovoltaic cell changes sunlight directly into
energy. Solar energy – energy from the sun – is clean, easily available,
inexhaustible, and free, if the equipment is available....
In the United States industry is the greatest source of pollution, accounting for more than half the volume of all water pollution and for the most deadly pollutants. Some 370,000 manufacturing facilities use huge quantities of freshwater to carry away wastes of many kinds. The waste-bearing water, or effluent, is discharged into streams, lakes, or oceans, which in turn disperse the polluting substances. In its National Water Quality Inventory, reported to Congress in 1996, the U.S.
This book approaches two contemporary topics in the field of software engineer-
ing that have had more than a significant impact in the way the modern software is
being developed. Agile movement raised the role of experience and people in the
centre stage having a profound impact on large and small software organizations
alike. Research and practice have shown that agile is penetrating practically in
all industrial domains including the globally operating, hardware-bound software
industrialisation strategies adopted and economic policies followed have shown
great differences before and after 1980. An import substitution policy had been
implemented until 1980. However, after 1980, significant progress has been made
towards establishing the principles and fundamentals of a market economy through
the introduction of export-oriented industrialisation.
These reforms made significant contribution to the dynamism of the private sector
and improved the adaptability of Turkish economy to internal and external impacts.
The UK Government and devolved administrations are committed to delivering clean
air for a good quality of life. We have come a long way since the smogs of the 1950s. We
have achieved cleaner air through regulating emissions from industrial processes, progressively
tightening emissions and fuel standards for road vehicles and controlling smoke from domestic
premises. But there are still sometimes levels of pollution that can significantly harm human
health and the environment.
The beginning of this book was university lecture notes and training material for process
engineers. Although it now is a lot more comprehensive, it has been our intention to
maintain a mixed academic and industrial approach to the various subjects. Our motivation
for writing this book has been the need for a text covering the full range from the underlying
physics to the process applications of radioisotope gauges. We could not deal with all
subjects in detail; however, we have included references to many excellent books and
articles where further details can be found....
This text-book is intended for college and high-school classes. Most of the facts stated in it have become,
through the researches and publications of recent years, such commonplace knowledge that a reference to
authority in each case has not seemed necessary. Statements on more doubtful points, and such personal
opinions as I have had occasion to express, although not supported by references, are based on a somewhat
careful study of the sources. To each chapter is subjoined a bibliographical paragraph with the titles of the
most important secondary authorities.
In the Northeast, the solvents emitted in the greatest quantities from furniture finishing are toluene,
xylenes, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and methanol.
All of these
compounds are flammable liquids that quickly evaporate in air. In addition, the U.S. EPA
considers them hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) that can cause adverse health effects and volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) that can contribute to ambient air quality problems.
The two maquiladoras in our sample were selected on the basis of two criteria: (i) each is
reputed to be a leading industrial source of air pollution, and (ii) the detailed technical data
needed to estimate their emissions are available. Some brief additional explanation may be
We began the process of selecting maquiladoras for this study with a list of Paso del
Norte’s leading industrial sources of air pollution, compiled from informal information provided
by local stakeholders. We used U.S.
We propose a two-step inversion of three-component seismograms that ( 1) recovers
the far-field source time function at each station and (2) estimates the distribution of
co-seismic slip on the fault plane for small earthquakes (magnitude 3 to 4). The
empirical Green’s function (EGF) method consists of finding a small earthquake
located near the one we wish to study and then performing a deconvolution to remove
the path, site, and instrumental effects from the main-event signal.
Berkhout (2005) argues that the source of pressures on each corner of the Innovation
Triangle differs. Pressure on abatement tends to come from the environmental authori-
ties; pressures on process changes come from competitors and customers; whereas pres-
sures on products come from consumers and pressure groups. Moreover, changes in one
corner of the Innovation Triangle affect changes in both other corners through dynamic
interlinkages (depicted by the arrows in Fig. 2).
This paper examines the pollution control policies applied in China’s paper industry during the period of economic reform from 1982 to 1992. The paper industry is the source of ten percent of China’s industrial wastewater emissions and one fourth of its chemical oxygen demand. It is the largest source of rural environmental pollution. The very small size of china’s mills is comparable to that of papermills in many developing countries and this small size itself creates an interesting problem.
This paper reviews the impacts of the changes on the main markets and examines the prospects for the market s and the source countries. The main conclusions are as follows: after the renewal of quantitative restrictions on Chinese garment exports were agreed with the US and the EU, the post-MFA surge in Chinese grment exports was significantly attenuated.
This handbook is designed as a comprehensive reference for the industrial automation engineer. Whether in a smallor large manufacturing plant, the industrial or manufacturing engineer is usually responsible for using the latest andbest technology in the safest, most economic manner to build products. This responsibility requires an enormousknowledge base that, because of changing technology, can never be considered complete.
Chlorinated paraffins are one of the last classes of chlorinated compounds that are still being produced worldwide and used in high quantities in many applications. They are particularly used in cutting oils in the metal industry, but also as lubricants, plasticizers, flame retardants and as additives in adhesives, rubber, paints and sealants. This volume covers the state-of-the-art of methods for the synthesis and analysis of chlorinated paraffins. Experts in the field provide an overview of their worldwide occurrence and utilization and describe their toxicological properties.
Industrial Safety and Health for Goods and Materials Servicesfocuses on the safety requirements of the wholesale and retail trades, including warehousing. This detailed text describes the hazards associated with chemicals, compressed gases, and fire.
With technology advancements in semiconductor devices such as insulated gate
bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and gate commutated thyristors (GCTs), modern highpower
medium voltage (MV) drives are increasingly used in petrochemical, mining,
steel and metals, transportation and other industries to conserve electric energy,
increase productivity and improve product quality.
Although research and development of the medium voltage (2.3 KV to 13.8 KV)
drive in the 1-MW to 100-MW range are continuously growing, books dedicated to
this technology seem unavailable.
This is a comprehensive textbook for the new trend of distributed power generation systems and renewable energy sources in electric power systems. It covers the complete range of topics from fundamental concepts to major technologies as well as advanced topics for power consumers.
