  • This book is aimed at providing applied aspects of photosynthesis. Different research groups collected their valuable results from the study of this interesting process. In this book, there are two sections: Fundamental and Applied aspects. All sections have been written by experts in their fields. Book chapters present different and new subjects, from photosynthetic inhibitors, to interaction between flowering initiation and photosynthesis. The book is the result of the effort of many experts, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all contributors for their chapters.

  • Two approaches were selected for the study, both of which were based on an initial hot water treatment: the “chemical” where bleached pulp is produced for printing and writing papers by hot water treatment and the following alkaline peroxide bleaching (Paper II–IV) and the “mechanical” where the unbleached material from the hot water treatment stage is mechanically refined (Paper II, V) to produce fibres for packaging grade papers. In the future, the straw fibre could be considered as a raw material for biocomposites.

  • The appropriate time to start contraception depends on the contraceptive method and may also depend on medical and social factors. Traditionally, initiation of hormonal and intrauterine methods of contraception has been delayed until the onset of the next menstrual period in order to avoid inadvertent use during pregnancy. Starting early in the cycle also avoids the need for additional contraception. The manufacturers’ Summaries of Product Characteristics (SPCs) vary in their advice on contraceptive start dates and the need for additional contraception.

  • For participation in all markets, interventions which increase the compatibility between women’s productive and reproductive roles are key –such as access to quality child care and reproductive health services. Similarly, initiatives to improve infrastructure access can promote women’s economic empowerment across all markets. For example, increasing women’s ability to use various modes of transport would increase employability, allow women to interact with formal and informal credit market institutions, and provide easier access to markets for goods women produce.

  • Retrospective premium adjustments – Some policies have their final premium determined based on the losses incurred under the contract. Such “retrospectively rated” policies result in an initial premium, followed by a series of adjustment premium entries based on the covered losses under the policy (subject to limitations such as minimums and maximums, etc.) These adjustments can sometimes continue for many years after the original policy term has expired.

  • Research in anoxic environments is a relatively new and rapidly growing branch of science that is of general interest to many students of diverse microbial communities. The term anoxia means absence of atmospheric oxygen, while the term hypoxia refers to O 2 depletion or to an extreme form of “low oxygen.” Both terms anoxia and hypoxia are used in various contexts. It is accepted that the initial microorganisms evolved anaerobically and thrived in an atmosphere without oxygen. The rise of atmospheric oxygen occurred ~2.
