The Workshop on Energy and Transportation took place on January 7-9,
2002, in Washington, DC. This workshop was the second in a series of workshops
that comprise the study Challenges in the Chemical Sciences in the 21st
Century. The purpose of this study was to carry out a survey of the current status
of the chemical sciences, including chemistry and chemical engineering, and its
interfaces with other disciplines such as mechanical engineering, physics, materials
science, and the biological sciences.
rom the creators of Yahoo!'s Design Pattern Library, Designing Social Interfaces provides you with more than 100 patterns, principles, and best practices, along with salient advice for many of the common challenges you'll face when starting a social website. Designing sites that foster user interaction and community-building is a valuable skill for web developers and designers today, but it's not that easy to understand the nuances of the social web. Now you have help.
Designing user interfaces nowadays is indispensably important. A well-designed user interface promotes users to complete their everyday tasks in a great extent, particularly users with special needs. Numerous guidelines have already been developed for designing user interfaces but because of the technical development, new challenges appear continuously, various ways of information seeking, publication and transmit evolve.
For the first time, this edition of Design Business and Ethics has been
consolidated into a single publication, rather than printed as separate
brochures in a binder. This new format responds to members’ recom-
mendations to minimize the resources used in the publication, both in
consideration of the environment and the current economic challenges.
Electromyography (EMG) is a technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles. EMG may be used clinically for the diagnosis of neuromuscular problems and for assessing biomechanical and motor control deficits and other functional disorders. Furthermore, it can be used as a control signal for interfacing with orthotic and/or prosthetic devices or other rehabilitation assists.
Short Messaging Service (SMS) is popularly used to provide information access to people on the move. This has resulted in the growth of SMS based Question Answering (QA) services. However automatically handling SMS questions poses significant challenges due to the inherent noise in SMS questions. In this work we present an automatic FAQ-based question answering system for SMS users. We handle the noise in a SMS query by formulating the query similarity over FAQ questions as a combinatorial search problem.
YUI 3 Cookbook introduces specific implementation patterns in the library, demonstrating granular solutions for everything from simple page effects to sophisticated web apps.
In this lab, you configure an International Travel Agency EIGRP WAN link with one IGRP
segment within the same autonomous system. You also use EIGRP interface
summarization to reduce the number of routes in an EIGRP routing table.

Bush posited Memex as “a device in which an individual stores all his books, records, and communications,
and which is mechanized so that it may be consulted with exceeding speed and flexibility. It is an enlarged
intimate supplement to his memory.” Memex was to be built into a desk with a keyboard, microphone, and
display surfaces. Its interface could copy photos or papers, or could be written on. However, “most of the
Memex contents are purchased on microfilm ready for insertion.

Character recognition is one of the pattern recognition technologies that are most widely used in practical applications. This book presents recent advances that are relevant to character recognition, from technical topics such as image processing, feature extraction or classification, to new applications including human-computer interfaces. The goal of this book is to provide a reference source for academic research and for professionals working in the character recognition field.
Effective solutions to water quality challenges exist and have
been implemented in a number of places. It is time for a
global focus on protecting and improving the quality of the
world’s freshwater resources. There are three fundamental
solutions to water quality problems: (1) prevent pollution; (2)
treat polluted water; and (3) restore ecosystems.
Dermoscopy, also called dermatoscopy, epiluminescence microscopy or skin surface
microscopy, was developed in the 1990s in order to augment the early diagnosis of
melanoma. First technologies allowed the observer to examine pigmented skin lesions
covered by a drop of oil and a glass slide through a stereo microscope. Then dermoscopy
developed into a hand-held lighted magnifier to analyze skin lesions by observing newly
defined and descriptively named subsurface structures: eg, dots, streaks, veils, and
Although mobile devices, cellular phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and other
handheld devices have hardware constraints such as small screen, small storage, low CPU
speed, and low resolution, their popularity has been enormously increasing. This is
enhancing the opportunities for researchers to overcome those open problems caused of
small size hardware constraints. However, still the biggest difficulty is that these devices are
too difficult to load today’s visual information because most current information is based on
a large visual documentation.
A friendly, step–by–step guide to the Microsoft Office database application Access may be the least understood and most challenging application in the Microsoft Office suite. This guide is designed to help anyone who lacks experience in creating and managing a database learn to use Access 2010 quickly and easily. In the classic For Dummies tradition, the book provides an education in Access, the interface, and the architecture of a database. It explains the process of building a database, linking information, sharing data, generating reports, and much more.
Loren’s book provides a way for companies to quickly and efficiently use Assistive Technology to make basic spreadsheets accessible. His approach is direct and easy to follow, hands-on, and practical. His innovation, Assistive Portals, opens the door to making graphical interfaces embedded in decision analysis spreadsheets readily accessible to individuals with visual impairments. While making technology accessible is a difficult challenge for the business world, this book brings it well within reach....
campus network is a building or group of buildings that
connects to one network, called an enterprise network. Typically, one company
owns the entire network, including the wiring between buildings. This
local area network (LAN) typically uses Ethernet, Token Ring, Fiber Distributed
Data Interface (FDDI), or Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
The main challenge for network administrators is to make the campus
network run efficiently and effectively. To do this, they must understand
current campus networks as well as the new emerging campus networks....
