We present disputant relation-based method for classifying news articles on contentious issues. We observe that the disputants of a contention are an important feature for understanding the discourse. It performs unsupervised classification on news articles based on disputant relations, and helps readers intuitively view the articles through the opponent-based frame.
MIDAS/Civil is the ultimate Integrated Civil Engineering Solution for designing
bridges and general civil structures. It retains construction stage analysis
capabilities for Prestressed/Post-tensioned concrete, Suspension, Cable Stayed,
Specialty and Conventional bridges and Heat of hydration.MIDAS/Civil, developed in the object-oriented programming language Visual
C++, fully exploits the advantages and the characteristics of the 32bit Windows
environment for technical computations.
An on-line auction website prevents attackers from guessing the passwords of users by temporarily locking accounts
that receive too many failed attempts (5 tries) in a given amount of time. Once an account is locked, the attacker (or
the user) must wait for a timeout to expire (1 hr) before attempting to login again. Account locking is one of several
techniques used to slow down brute force attacks.
Once logged-in, users are able to browse items being auctioned and view who bid on what. To place a bid, a user is
asked for their password to verify their intent, which...
The world knows an immense amount of suffering, much of it humanly inflicted
and much of it humanly preventable. My book seeks to shed light on the moral
dimensions of this fact. Ultimately, it aims to clarify the nature of the duty to relieve
suffering, and to encourage reflection on the kinds of changes that would be necessary
to bring our lives into adequate compliance with this duty.
I have brooded on these matters for a long time.
With its origins in the theories of continuous distributions of dislocations and
of metal plasticity, inhomogeneity theory is a rich and vibrant field of research.
The recognition of the important role played by configurational or material
forces in phenomena such as growth and remodelling is perhaps its greatest
present-day impetus. While some excellent comprehensive works approaching
the subject from different angles have been published, the objective of
this monograph is to present a point of view that emphasizes the differentialgeometric
aspects of inhomogeneity theory.
I) "Realism with a wink" might best describe how even sympathetic
interpreters of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason have
viewed Kant's assertion that the broad transcendental idealist
framework yields realism at the empirical level. There remains
the common belief that Kamian appearances are mind dependent
in a way that effectively excludes empirical realism from
being accepted as a genuine form of realism. The word
"appearance" (Erscheinung) itself is usually enough to scare
off even the most well-intentioned realist.
This textbook deals with the analysis and design of analog CMOS integrated circuits, emphasizing recent technological developments and design paradigms that students and practicing engineers need to master to succeed in today's industry.
Chapter 8 Law of Large Numbers
8.1 Law of Large Numbers for Discrete Random Variables
We are now in a position to prove our first fundamental theorem of probability. We have seen that an intuitive way to view the probability of a certain outcome is as the frequency with which that outcome occurs in the long run
This intuitive yet rigourous introduction derives the core results of digital communication from first principles. Theory, rather than industry standards, motivates the engineering approaches, and key results are stated with all the required assumptions. The book emphasizes the geometric view, opening with the inner product, the matched filter for its computation, Parseval's theorem, the sampling theorem as an orthonormal expansion, the isometry between passband signals and their baseband representation, and the spectral-efficiency optimality of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM).
Relational databases are indisputably at the core of the modern enterprise.
While modern programming languages, including JavaTM, provide an intuitive,
object-oriented view of application-level business entities, the enterprise data
underlying these entities is heavily relational in nature. Further, the main strength
of the relational model—over earlier navigational models as well as over later
OODB models—is that by design it is intrinsically agnostic to the programmatic
manipulation and application-level view of the data that it serves up...
Tracking system status is one thing. Solving discovered problems is another. Systems Director is designed
to help you accomplish both.
Using the Scoreboard, you can identify the number of systems with problems in your data center. The
ability to drill down to view the specific problems on a system is intuitively integrated into the Health
Summary view (and throughout Systems Director). This display reflects any known problems with your
hardware, as well as triggered threshold monitors, in a single status overview.
We find strong evidence against the view that childhood tele-
vision viewing harms the cognitive or educational development
of preschoolers. Our preferred point estimate indicates that an
additional year of preschool television exposure raises average
adolescent test scores by about 0.02 standard deviations. We are
able to reject negative effects larger than about 0.03 standard
deviations per year of television exposure.
These findings point toward an important economic intuition
that is often overlooked in the popular debate about television: the
cognitive effects of television exposure depend critically on the ed-
ucational value of the alternative activities that it crowds out.
Like other early-childhood interventions (Currie 2001), television
seems to be most beneficial for children who are relatively dis-
advantaged. For children with highly educated parents and rich
home environments, the cognitive effects of television appear to
be smaller and may even be negative.
