Forensic Engineering Investigation is a compendium of the investigative methodologies used by engineers and scientific investigators to evaluate some of the more common types of failures and catastrophic events. In essence, the book provides analyses and methods for determining how an entity was damaged and when that damage may have legal consequences. The material covers 21 common types of failures, catastrophic events, and losses that forensic engineers routinely assess.
In this paper we propose a methodology for investigating the relationship between architectures of natural language generation (NLG) systems and stylistic properties of texts. Biber's (1988) methodology is used to obtain both the characterisation of style of our corpus and the division of the corpus into sets of linguistically similar texts. These sets will be used for studying the architectural aspects.
(BQ)This paper proposes an experimental investigation and optimization of the various machining parameters for the electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes on Inconel 718 super alloy using a multi objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm.
With the new millennium comes change. Indoor air quality methodologies
have expanded, evolved, andmorphed. The focus is shifting froma knee-jerk
to a more proactive response. Although indoor air quality in older buildings
will continue to present old challenges, new construction is going forward
with new challenges.
They use geological and distribution
data on the island’s 1,284 plant genera and more than 2,000 endemic plant taxa to
identify 19 biomes there, and they describe complex conservation challenges. The next
chapter by Benny Chan and Pei-Fen Lee explores the biogeography of the barnacles of
Taiwan, relating taxon distributions to coastal geomorphology and the complex array
of oceanic currents around the island. Global climate changes in ocean water
temperature may permit southerly, warmwater taxa to expand northward, invading
habitat presently occupied by coldwater taxa....
The title of this book, Wireless Power Transfer: Principles and Engineering Explorations, encompasses theory and engineering technology, which are of interest for diverse classes of wireless power transfer. This book is a collection of contemporary research and developments in the area of wireless power transfer technology. It consists of 13 chapters that focus on interesting topics of wireless power links, and several system issues in which analytical methodologies, numerical simulation techniques, measurement techniques and methods, and applicable examples are investigated....
Early interest in selenium by nutritionists concerned its high concentration in
certain range plants and the consequent toxicosis in animals that grazed those plants.
More recently, the essential nature of selenium has become the center of attention, and
this element is now known to be required by laboratory animals, food animals (including
fish), and humans. Its role as an integral feature of glutathione peroxidase has been
established, and other possible functions are under active investigation.
The diversification of economic activity and labour market development have both
been identified as possible strategies to reduce the vulnerability of the poor and
enable the ascent out of poverty. Whether such policies are necessarily empow-ering for women has been much debated but less well documented. In this book we
adopt a comparative case study approach using original survey material for three
African countries and a state in India to investigate these links
Forensic engineering is the application of engineering principles and methodologies
to answer questions of fact. These questions of fact are usually associated with accidents, crimes, catastrophic events, degradation of property,
and various types of failures.
A suite of emerging techniques, known collectively as “molecular imaging,” now
offer scientists an unprecedented opportunity to identify, follow, and quantify
biologic processes at the cellular level with molecular specificity in intact organisms.
For instance, it is now possible to evaluate, with imaging, the distribution,
magnitude, and timing of gene expression in genetically altered animals (1–3).
At the Kabupaten level, the average relative cash flow per worker is 74 million Rp (with 95%
confidence limits of 70 to 78 million Rp), but the dispersion is high and the spatial heterogeneity
among villages is considerable (Figure 18). In some villages, the added value per worker is less
than 1 million Rp/year, while others produce more than 600 million Rp/year/worker. There is no
clear explanation for the differences, as they are not obviously linked to either the industrial or
The Global Initiative on Transport Emissions (GITE) was created as a partnership between
the United Nations and the World Bank to help the international community meet some of the
above needs. The GITE projects and programmes are being developed in three clusters of
activities. The Partnership for Vehicle and Fuel Technology Modernization (PVFTM) is intended
to create a structured forum to investigate the reasons that more appropriate technologies are not
used in particular regions, and what can be done to overcome the barriers to their use.

This book includes several geomorphological studies up-to-date, incorporating different disciplines and methodologies, always focused on methods, tools and general issues of environmental and applied geomorphology.
The wealth of data now available allows us to estimate
which quantitative indicators are weighed most
heavily in the determination of ratings, to evaluate the predictive
power of ratings in explaining a cross-section of
sovereign bond yields, and to measure whether rating
announcements directly affect market yields on the day of
Our investigation suggests that, to a large extent,
Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s rating assignments can be
explained by a small number of well-defined criteria,
which the two agencies appear to weigh similarly.
Drug abuse in the developed world is an international problem. In the USA, in an
effort to deter drug use and identify abusers so they may receive treatment, testing
an individual’s urine has become a large commercial enterprise. Drug testing has also
been a traditional part of clinical care in medicine and in the medicolegal investigation
of death. While scientists conducting drug testing in the postmortem arena routinely
analyze a variety of biological matrices, the specimen of choice in the drug testing
industry in the USA is urine and in clinical medicine, serum.
Based on GCOSM, the objective of the paper is to propose an approach to investigating optimal pavement preservation strategies (OPPSs) for road networks in a systematic manner. In the following sections, the methodological procedure for investigating OPPSs of road networks is first presented, which is followed by a case study demonstrating the applicability of the proposed procedure. The HDM-4 system is employed as an OES in the study for Vietnamese national road network.
This thesis describes the development, implementation and preliminary results of the Arginine and Vitamin D Adjunctive Therapy in Pulmonary Tuberculosis (AVDAPT) randomised controlled trial.
I had a central role in developing and implementing the study protocol collaboratively with my PhD supervisors Associate Professor Paul Kelly (Australian National University, Canberra) and Professor Nicholas Anstey (Menzies School of Health Research, Darwin), and with additional input from the investigators listed in Appendix 1.
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between advertisement terminology and consumer product knowledge in the attitudes toward advertisements and brands. Design/Methodology/Approach One hundred and twenty undergraduates participated in a 2 9 2 (terminologies are used versus terminologies are not used 9 high consumer product knowledge versus low consumer product knowledge) between-subjects design.
The Handbook of Spectroscopy is intended to serve as an authoritative reference
source for a broad audience involved in the research, teaching, learning, and practice
of spectroscopic technologies. Spectroscopy is defined as the science that deals
with interactions between electromagnetic radiation and matter.
