American Welding Society Vice President Jerry Uttrachi is a master welder and he reveals all major welding processes and techniques, so you can repair and fabricate using advanced materials and complete complex projects. TIG, MIG, oxy-acetylene, and stick welding techniques are illustrated for a wide range of automotive applications. Uttrachi details how to make a butt joint, single pass butt, double pass butt, joggle joint, lap joint welds, and numerous other varieties of joint welds.
Uttrachi details how to make a butt joint, single pass butt, double pass butt, joggle joint, lap joint welds, and numerous other varieties of joint welds. Using the techniques revealed in this book, you can fabricate body panels, frames, and any number of structural and functional automotive components, and perform structural repair
The basic joint often is changed to assist in a component’s assembly. A weld joint might be modified to gain access to the weld joint or to change a weld’s metallurgical properties. Some common weldment configuration designs are described here. Joggle-type joints are used in cylinder and head assemblies where backing bars or tooling cannot be used. See Figure 6-8.
Another application of joggle joints is in the repair of
unibody automobiles where skin panels are placed together and welded.
