1 Compressor MATLAB code
The code listed in List 5.1 is to compress an image (x) using a JPEG approximation based on
8x8 DCT transforms, coefficient quantization, and Huffman symbol coding. Input “Quality”
determines the amount of information that is lost and compression achieved.
JPEG is a standard for compressing images that has become very popular recently. Unlike general
purpose compression algorithms, it exploits redundancy resulting from the two dimensional structure
