The answer lies in the observation that these previous studies have sought primarily to raise national awareness of problems related to manufacturing and to identify key industries, sectors, or technologies in which the United States has lost, is losing, or may lose its share of the international market. These studies have devoted relatively little attention to the leveraging technologies through which the U.S.

  • If some forms of independent production have worked closely in unison with Hollywood, others have operated in areas in which Hollywood has chosen not to tread, sometimes teaching valuable lessons to the dominant institution. Necessity has often driven independent operators to be the pioneers of American cinema, exploring new avenues in their search for territories not already colonized by the major studios. The early independents took cinema to parts of rural America, including the gold camps of Alaska, that were not served by the big companies.

The ion exchange gel is packed into plastic syringe bodies and the trypanosomes are collected in sealed Pasteur pipettes. After centrifugation, the pipette tip while immersed in a very shallow water bath, is examined with a 20 X objective. Trypanosomes may be seen undulating in the fluid within the pipette tip. The method is claimed 98% accurate, but requires more apparatus, preparation and skill development time.

  • The use of the internet as a method of purchasing counterfeit goods was most common for films, with 12 per cent of purchasers using this electronic shop front. However, respondents were more than twice as likely to purchase films from social environments (26 per cent) or on holiday (29 per cent). We do not wish to under- estimate the importance of the internet for the sale and distribution of counterfeit products, as this distribution channel is most likely to show greatest growth in the future. However, it is notable that less than a third as many people reported acquiring...

  • The concept called “lean management” or “lean thinking” is most commonly associated with Japanese manufacturing, particularly the Toyota Production System (TPS). Much of the TPS way of thinking is based on the work of quality guru W. Edwards Deming, who taught, among other things, that managers should stop depending on mass inspection to achieve quality and, instead, focus on improving the production process and building quality into the product in the first place. So what is meant by “lean thinking”? Simply put, lean means using less to do more.

Another aspect that makes fisheries resources important is the self renewable character. Unlike mineral resources, if the fishery resources or any other biological resources are well managed, their duration is pratically unlimited.

Supply lines may also be affected by self-imposed travel restrictions, with truckers/transporters unwilling to travel through or to infected areas. • Domestic demand continues to be held back by the legacy of the crisis of 2008-09 as households, banks and sovereigns are simultaneously reducing their leverage. At the same time, resources in countries that ran large current- account deficits before the crisis need to be reallocated from the production of goods and services for domestic consumption towards tradables. As this adjustment is progressing, an improvement of deficit countries' economic performance is expected to lead to some growth convergence towards the end of the forecast horizon. ...
