The Adelaide Declaration on National Goals for Schooling in the Twenty-first Century identified learning languages other than English as one of the eight key learning areas to be included in a balanced curriculum (MCCETYA 1999). Since then, learning other languages has experienced fluctuating fortunes in the curricula of various Australian states and territories; its struggle for acceptance as a legitimate area in its own right is ongoing.
Tongue, Speech, Language.+-- We speak of the "English tongue" or of the "French language"; and we say
of two nations that they "do not understand each other's speech." The existence of these three words--
+speech+, +tongue+, +language+-- proves to us that a language is something +spoken+,-- that it is a number
of +sounds+; and that the writing or printing of it upon paper is a quite secondary matter. Language, rightly
considered, then, is an +organised set of sounds+.
This study attempts to present what the authors have experienced and applied in fostering learner autonomy in Country Studies (namely British and American Studies) at Faculty of English, Hanoi National University of Education. Starting with some main definitions about learner autonomy and its conditions, and basing on authors’ own experience and belief, the authors discuss four main strategies used in teaching and learning Country Studies.

Here we tried to map the dependency among aged in India. This is done across four sub
groups, Rural Male, Rural female, urban male and urban female. In India in both categories of
full and partial dependency, more than 80 percent of the women fall. In the national level
more than 70 percent of the elderly are fully dependent in both female categories in both rural
and urban areas (72.07 and 72.12) while it is just over 30 in the case of men (32.7 and 30.11).
