Laser-induced thermal explosion of metallic nanoparticles originates from nonlinear optical effect. Nonlinear optical properties of nanoparticle materials depend strongly on their size and shape. Several methods were proposed to produce nanoparticles of a controlled size and welldefined distribution. We studied to prepare silver nanoparticles by laser ablation. Production of nanoparticles from natural hydroxylapatite by laser ablation

Abstract Laser ablation of solids in liquids technique has been used to obtain colloidal nanoparticles from biological hydroxylapatite using pulsed as well as a continuous wave (CW) laser.
Natural and synthetic beryl, Al2Be3Si6O18, from various deposits and manufacturers were investigated with Raman, IR spectroscopy, Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and Electron Microprobe Analysis (EMPA). The Raman-band at 1067-1072 cm-1 and the IR-band at 1071-1207 cm-1 have been assigned till now either to Si-O or to Be-O by different studies.
Almost all technologies described so far are suitable for prototyping or for small
series production only. It simply takes a lot of time and is therefore costly to
manufacture a large number of microstructures by laser ablation or wire erosion
and by milling or SLM. This is not so in the case of the etching techniques. Here, a
large number of microstructure devices can be very easily generated.
Another possibility to obtain a large number of microstructures is by embossing.
Several techniques for fabrication of through-wafer vias in
silicon have been compared in terms of achievable via
diameter, shape and geometry and their influence on
mechanical strength of silicon dies/wafers. Assessed
techniques are: powder blasting, laser melt cutting, laser
ablation, and deep reactive ion etching. The resolution of each
method and influence on geometry was evaluated by
fabrication through-wafer holes and slots in 240µm-thick
silicon wafers. The mechanical strength is measured using
ring-on-ring (RoR) and four-point bending methods.
