This pamphlet is designed to highlight various "legal aspects" of United States Savings Bonds, with
emphasis on tax liability and reissues.
While intended primarily for lawyers, trust officers, accountants, and legal representatives of estates, it
may also serve as a guide for anyone who has decisions to make concerning the disposition of
outstanding savings bonds or the form of registration for new bonds.
Subjects are discussed here only in summary form. The pamphlet is not intended as a substitute for
complete and qualified legal advice.
The present book is based on the lectures delivered by the author in the past few
years as part of the Criminal Law course of the Faculty of Law at the Ono Academic
College. There has been little research on the principle of legality in modern
criminal law, although this is one of the most ancient legal principles of human
society. In recent generations there have been several attempts to define the
principle conclusively, but only with regard to some of its aspects. No comprehensive
definition of the principle of legality has been attempted to date....
The publication of the very first issue of a new journal is always an exciting
and eagerly awaited event. International Trade and Business Law Journal
publishes articles, comments, case notes, and book reviews on foreign law,
comparative law, and international trade law. This first issue contains articles
on the International Sales Convention (Honnold), European Monetary Union
(Follak), quality and title warranties in transfers of computer software
(Adams), and legal aspects of foreign investment in Vietnam (Trai Le)....
European Union (EU) environmental legislation has developed over the last
30 years and comprises today some 300 legal acts and a large number of
other policy documents of relevance for EU environmental policy. Section
1.2.1 of this chapter gives a general introduction to the EU forms of legislation
and the principles of the EU environmental policy. The legislation related to
the environmental aspects of textile processes in general, primarily the
emissions to water and air, is discussed in sections 1.2 to 1.6....
The law increasingly affects every aspect of a small business operation, from relationships with
landlords, customers and suppliers to dealings with governmental agencies over taxes, licenses
and zoning. Being surrounded by legal issues places most small business owners in an unhappy
dilemma—either buy expensive legal help from a lawyer or go without.
Here is another alternative: a self-help book designed to answer most of the legal questions
you’re likely to ask in starting and running your business.
Irecently took a European executive to his first U.S. basketball game. Although
I had received two tickets in the first row, for the first half of the game I took
him to seats up much higher that I had also received tickets for. I wanted him to
get an overview of the game before getting close to see the details. My concern
was that if we started by being in the front row, he would get lost in the specifics
without understanding the overall process.
In the business context of this book, over the past several decades, I have been
involved in many major mergers and acquisitions—some...
We became acutely interested in the Harvard Research in Interna-
tional Law while we were researching all aspects of international law
for the second edition of the Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Interna-
tional Law in the early 2000s. We wrote, in fact rewrote from the first
edition, an entry on the Harvard Research and that set us thinking
that, while we knew of ...

Chapter Author's Note
To an extent, this novel deals with the legal aspects of child custody in the State of Maine. I asked for help in understanding this subject from my friend Warren Silver, who is a fine attorney. Warren guided me carefully, and along the way he also told me about a quaint old device called the Stenomask, which I immediately appropriated for my own fell purposes. If I've made procedural mistakes in the story which follows, blame me, not my legal resource. Warren also asked me--rather plaintively ¡ª if I could maybe put a 'good' lawyer in my book....
As we reported in May 2007 , the TCF “implementation” deadline tested whether
firms were implementing necessary changes in a substantial part of their business. Firms
were expected to have allocated appropriate resources and responsibilities, developed
plans and processes, and created capability to meet the TCF principle. We would expect
a firm’s implementation plan to identify and tackle any gaps in their ability to ensure
customers are treated fairly, including the designing and selling of PPI.
The requirements are also needed for clearly distinguishing car-sharing from "fictive car-
sharing" such as might be established for the sole purpose of taking advantage of special
benefits that genuine car-sharing schemes should be eligible for. The requirement of the
administrator of a car-sharing scheme being a legal entity (requirement 1) and of each vehicle
being registered in the name of a legal entity (requirement 4) reduces the risk of misuse.

The use of the Internet for terrorist purposes is a rapidly growing phenomenon, requiring
a proactive and coordinated response from Member States.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) plays a key role in providing
assistance to Member States, in furtherance of its mandate to strengthen the capacity
of national criminal justice systems to implement the provisions of the international
legal instruments against terrorism, and does so in compliance with the principles
rule of law and international human rights standards.
Liability means legal responsibility for the consequences of your acts
or omissions. Your accountability to the client may be enforced by civil
remedies or criminal penalties. For example, a web developer who has
agreed in writing to complete an e-commerce site by a specifi c date will
have liability to the client if the project is not completed on time.
Limitations on liability and use of ALL CAPS
Again, if an agreement includes a limitation on liability, many states
require by law that the limitation language be suffi ciently “conspicuous”
in the document.
The impacts of climate change ranging from sea level rise,
melting ice caps and glaciers, severe weather events,
drought, flooding, warming, subtle changes in ecosystems –
will impinge on every aspect of society and economic life.
The costs of inaction will more than outweigh the costs
of action. There is only a narrow window of opportunity
to redress the situation.
The field of medical informatics has grown rapidly over the past decade
due to the advances in biomedical computing, the abundance of biomedical
and genomic data, the ubiquity of the Internet, and the general acceptance of
computing in various aspects of medical, biological, and health care research
and practice. This book aims to be complementary to several other popular
introductory medical informatics textbooks.
