[ Team LiB ] Recipe 10.4 Determining the Length of Columns in a SQL Server Table Problem The FillSchema( ) method of the DataAdapter returns the correct length in the MaxLength property for string columns in a SQL Server database, but it returns -1 for the length of all other fields.
We present a statistical model of Japanese unknown words consisting of a set of length and spelling models classified by the character types that constitute a word. The point is quite simple: different character sets should be treated differently and the changes between character types are very important because Japanese script has both ideograms like Chinese (kanji) and phonograms like English (katakana). Both word segmentation accuracy and part of speech tagging accuracy are improved by the proposed model. ...
We examine the problem of choosing word order for a set of dependency trees so as to minimize total dependency length. We present an algorithm for computing the optimal layout of a single tree as well as a numerical method for optimizing a grammar of orderings over a set of dependency types. A grammar generated by minimizing dependency length in unordered trees from the Penn Treebank is found to agree surprisingly well with English word order, suggesting that dependency length minimization has influenced the evolution of English. ...
This paper describes a hybrid model that combines a rule-based model with two statistical models for the task of POS guessing of Chinese unknown words. The rule-based model is sensitive to the type, length, and internal structure of unknown words, and the two statistical models utilize contextual information and the likelihood for a character to appear in a particular position of words of a particular length and POS category.
This chapter covers reporting and presentation techniques. An example of the MindWriter research report is provided in the text. After reading this chapter, you should understand: That a quality presentation of research findings can have an inordinate effect on a reader’s or a listener’s perceptions of a study’s quality; the contents, types, lengths, and technical specifications of research reports; that the writer of a research report should be guided by questions of purpose, readership, circumstances/limitations, and use.
Chapter 19 - Presenting insights and findings: Written reports. After studying this chapter you will be able to understand: That a quality presentation of research findings can have an inordinate effect on a reader’s or a listener’s perceptions of a study’s quality; the contents, types, lengths, and technical specifications of research reports; that the writer of a research report should be guided by questions of purpose, readership, circumstances/limitations, and use.
Achive TOEIC Bridge has many contents: test - taking strategies, 3 mini-tests, 2 full -length practive tests, grammar review, vocabulary review. This book is an objective method of measuring English proficiency. It is suitable for various types of Novice to Lower - intermediate level learners: high school, college and university students and learners in the international workplace.
The increased speed and mobility of business activities and cross-border transactions resulting from internet usage has particular implications for applying transfer pricing methods and for taxing business profits. This book presents a two-part look at existing OECD positions on these issues.
After four centuries a quote from Galileo Galilei is still the most effective way to
introduce a Metrology book: “Measure what is measurable, and make measurable
what is not so”. Every human activity needs an objective measurement and every
global process should be supported by a common standard.
There are several handbooks, tutorials and journals that focus on the basic concepts of
metrology, the uncertainty theory and the international reference standards.
Moreover, the engineering literature is awash with measurement methods for each

The CIME-EMS Summer School in applied mathematics on “Multiscale and
Adaptivity:Modeling, Numerics and Applications” was held in Cetraro (Italy) from
July 6 to 11, 2009. This course has focused on mathematical methods for systems
that involve multiple length/time scales and multiple physics. The complexity of
the structure of these systems requires suitable mathematical and computational
tools. In addition, mathematics provides an effective approach toward devising
computational strategies for handling multiple scales and multiple physics.
Countries differ in the way they channel capital to firms and in the way they reduce
information asymmetries between firms and the key financing parties. These differences
are likely to shape firms’ incentives to report earnings that reflect true economic
performance. We illustrate this idea using a stylized characterization of financial systems.
In an outsider system, like the U.K., firms rely heavily on public debt or equity
markets in raising capital. Corporate ownership is dispersed. Investors are “at arm’s
length” and do not have privileged access to information.
Over the last several decades, the standards of US GAAP and associated guid-
ance have grown to many thousands of pages. By contrast, IFRS is substantially
shorter in length. The principles-based nature of IFRS standards may facilitate an
enhanced focus on the economic purpose of a company’s business activities
in its financial reports. This may make it possible for businesses to produce
financial reports that are less complex for investors and other users of financial

Real world concepts can be modeled in a computer program
The program is made of objects with certain properties and

Automatic sampler (optional)—The sampler must incorporate glass sample
containers for the collection of a minimum of 250 mL of sample. Sample
containers must be kept refrigerated at 4°C and protected from light during
compositing. If the sampler uses a peristaltic pump, a minimum length of
compressible silicone rubber tubing may be used. Before use, however, the
compressible tubing should be thoroughly rinsed with methanol, followed by
repeated rinsings with distilled water to minimize the potential for
contamination of the sample.
The introduction of noncanonical amino acids and bio-physical probes into peptides and proteins, and total or
segmental isotopic labelling has the potential to greatly aid
protein interactions. To obtain a peptide as large as possible
by solid-phase peptide synthesis, native chemical ligation
was introduced to enable synthesis of proteins of up to 120
amino acids in length.
Loss of Driving Privileges for Moving Violations — A driver under age 21
convicted of two or more moving violations within a 24-month period will have
his/her driver’s license suspended for a minimum of 30 days. The length of the sus-
pension varies according to the seriousness of the traffic offenses. A driver may be
required to complete a driver remedial education course as part of reinstatement of
driving privileges. A suspended driver may be, but is not always, eligible for a
Restricted Driving Permit during the suspension period....
The fracture toughness of medium density fiberboard (MDF) as a function of crack length was measured. Fracture toughness was determined from force–displacement and crack length data using a new energy analysis procedure that avoids the scatter of prior discrete analysis methods. Because crack lengths were difficult to observe, they were measured using digital image correlation (DIC). The R curves for two different densities of MDF, two thicknesses, and for both in-plane and through-the-thickness cracks all increased linearly with crack length.
