This manual describes policies, protocols and recommendations for the prevention, treatment and control
of tuberculosis from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH). It
was written primarily for the medical providers of the New York City Bureau of Tuberculosis Control
(BTBC) as a reference guide on tuberculosis diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Originally published
in 1993, with subsequent editions in 1997 and 1999, the 4th edition of the manual has been updated to
reflect changes in national recommendations and BTBC protocols.
This manual represents the institutional guidelines, policies and procedures governing the selection, appointment, evaluation and promotion of residents at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the information presented, the content of this manual is subject to change. Unless otherwise noted, all policies included in and revisions of this document become effective upon their publication on www.kumc.edu/.
In accordance with the liberal policy previously referred to, an
invitation was sent to a body of Homeopathic physicians who had
settled in the West and were contemplating the organization of a college
of Homeopathists at Cleveland, to select a representative to occupy a
chair of Homeopathy in the Institute. At a convention held by the
Homeopathists at Cleveland, Professor Hill was present to urge the
The role of interest rate in the determination of investment and, hence economic
growth, has been a matter of controversy over a long period of time. Yet, what constitutes an
appropriate interest rate policy still remains to be a puzzling question. Until the early 1970s,
the main line of argument was that because the interest rate represents the cost of capital, low
interest rates will encourage the acquisition of physical capital (investment) and promotes
economic growth. Thus, during that era, the policy of low real interest rate was adopted by ...
The three chapters of this report cover an assessment on the impacts of China ’s
accession to the WTO (World Trade Organization), an analysis on Free Trade Areas in
China, Japan and Korea, and an analysis on the perspectives and issues of Japanese and
Korean direct investment in China, with a focus on technology transfer. These three
areas represent the major issues related to the trend toward liberalized trade and
investment in Northeast Asia.
This handbook on global economic policy is one in a set of six global policy
handbooks. The other five deal with technology, social, political, international,
and legal policy.
Public policy studies in the past have tended to emphasize domestic policy,
rather than cross-national policy. This is especially true of American policy studies
which tend to be especially nation-bound. This is also true to some extent of
policy studies in France, Russia, China, Brazil, and elsewhere.
Be prepared, learn all you can, both broadly and specifically. That is,
become as well-rounded as you can. Concentrating on sports and beer will serve you well in
some settings, but will not be enough for most others. The more knowledgeable you are, the
higher you can rise, and a liberal education will add to the scope and quality of your judgment.
At the same time, employers want to know what you can do well, and it is valuable to become
expert in some particular sphere(s).
The liberalization of U.S. trade policy towards Vietnam raised concerns about possible dumping by Vietnamese clothing exporters. Some members of Congress and U.S. clothing and textiles companies argued that a surge in Vietnamese imports may harm the U.S. clothing and textile industry.
The Syrian regime of Hafez al-Assad has in the past year seemed to change direction, first with tentative moves toward liberalization, then by siding with the American-led coalition that fought against Saddam Hussein and, perhaps most dramatically, by acceding to America’s wish that it attend a peace conference with Israel. There is no doubt that U.S.-Syrian relations have greatly improved in the process.
Stressful life events such as trauma, loss of a loved one,
a diicult relationship or any stressful situation—whether
welcome or unwelcome—oten occur before a depressive
episode. Additional work and home responsibilities, caring
for children and aging parents, abuse, and poverty also may
trigger a depressive episode. Evidence suggests that women
respond diferently than men to these events, making them
more prone to depression.
fast pace. As part of the structural adjustment programmes of the late 1980s and early
1990s Bangladesh undertook a number of initiatives towards trade liberalisation and trade
promotion to stimulate exports and encourage investment in export-oriented activities.
The major objective of these reforms was removal of anti-export bias, introduction of
incentives for exports and facilitation of participation in global labour market.
Consider an HIV-positive pregnant woman who lives in
drought-stricken rural Africa. She has walked several miles
with a child on her back to reach the nearest health facility.
Here, her child will receive some basic primary care and be
vaccinated against measles and other vaccine-preventable
diseases. This facility is small and provides only limited
services; consequently, the woman will be unable to receive
basic obstetric care here when she is ready to deliver her
For basic obstetric care, she must travel to a different clinic

After a long time effectively closing the door to foreign investors, VietNam has opened them again in recent years. The government has pursued an economic liberalization policy and introduced market - based reforms. Price controls in many areas have been scrapped, restriction on foreign investment have been loosened and so on. Let’s have a look at the factors of production that effect the decision making of “ Direct foreign investment may take place through either the acquisition of existing facilities or the new one (from the perspective of the host country like Viet Nam)”......
On December 7, 1995, the U.S. EPA promulgated a National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air
Pollutants (NESHAP) for the wood furniture manufacturing industry. The NESHAP applies to all
wood furniture manufacturers with the potential to emit 10 tons per year (tpy) or more of a single
HAP or 25 tpy or more of a combination of HAPs. Potential to emit is defined and discussed in

As life expectancy continues to rise, one of the
greatest challenges of public health is to improve
the quality of later years of life. The aim of this
present study was to analyze the quality of life
profile of the elderly across different demographic
and socioeconomic factors. A cross-sectional
study was carried out in two stages, involving
1,958 individuals aged 60 years or more. Health
related quality of life (HRQOL) was assessed using
the SF-36 questionnaire.
Over the last twenty years, asylum has become one of the central issues in
the politics of liberal democratic states. In 1993 the German Parliament
embarked upon the politically onerous task of amending the country’s
constitution, the Basic Law, in order to slow the arrival of asylum seekers
on to state territory.
In an era of information overload, it is not too radical to expect some social consciousness from the cinema
medium. All this while, there has been discussion about media‟s responsibility to the society. So why cinema
should be engaged only with creating leisure for its audience and not make them think critically? Popular
rhetoric and culture need to be challenged and cinema can do it effectively if it exhibits some sensitivity to
gender issues. This is because Hindi films now enjoy a huge international market in many South Asian and
The kind of transfers granted depends on the severity of the frailty (care level) and the type of
care arrangements chosen (by family members, care providers or in a nursing home). Persons
requiring home care can thus either draw lump-sum transfers (Geldleistung), in-kind transfers
(Sachleistung), or a combination of both. Only lump-sum transfers can be claimed for nursing
home care. German legislation assigns priority to home care over nursing home care and the

and 75/100 (i.e., up to 75% of “normal” crop yield and 100% of the estimated market price). In
limited areas, production can be insured up to the 85/100 level of coverage.

In recent decades a significant part of the land use changes caused
by the population expansion in Turkish cities has not followed an
urban development plan but was rather driven by unlicensed build-
As an example, the built-up area in the province of
Istanbul increased by more than 40% between 1990 and 2005. New
settlements were typically erected on public land near water bodies
and in areas that had been made more accessible by new trans-
portation routes like the Transit European Motorway, the E-5 and the
second Bosphorus Bridge.
