The objective of the present book, which tries to summarize in an edited format and in a fairly comprehensive manner, many of the recent technical research accomplishments in the area of Smart Actuators and Smart Sensors, is to combine researchers and scientists from different fields into a single virtual room.
A significant and very special class of industrial drives are those that are used for position control. These drives are typically called servo drives and the intelligent control of these drives is often called motion control. Some of the application areas of servo drives are machine tool servos, robotic actuator drives, electric vehicles, computer disk drives and the like. The power level for these drives usually range below 20 to 30 kW; however, drives with slightly lower control quality usually have power levels below 50 to 60 kW.
The cover for the opening in the valve body is the bonnet. In some designs, the body itself is
split into two sections that bolt together. Like valve bodies, bonnets vary in design. Some
bonnets function simply as valve covers, while others support valve internals and accessories
such as the stem, disk, and actuator.
The bonnet is the second principal pressure boundary of a valve. It is cast or forged of the same
material as the body and is connected to the body by a threaded, bolted, or welded joint.
When the rumored discovery in the year 1861 of extensive gold placers on Salmon river was confirmed, the
intelligence spread through the states like wild fire. Hundreds of men with dependent families, who had been
thrown out of employment by the depressed industrial condition of the country and by the Civil War, and still
others actuated by a thirst for gain, utilized their available resources in providing means for an immediate
migration to the land of promise. Before midsummer they had started on the long and perilous journey.
