It explores the production possibility set of the investment funds to identify an appropriate form of returns to scale. It discusses what risk and return measures can justifiably be combined and how to deal with negative risks, and identifies suitable sets of measures. It identifies the problems of failing to deal with diversification and develops an iterative approximation procedure to deal with it.

  • We propose an approach for extracting relations between entities from biomedical literature based solely on shallow linguistic information. We use a combination of kernel functions to integrate two different information sources: (i) the whole sentence where the relation appears, and (ii) the local contexts around the interacting entities. We performed experiments on extracting gene and protein interactions from two different data sets. The results show that our approach outperforms most of the previous methods based on syntactic and semantic information. ...

  • The chapter provides insight into the early assessment process and the application of precaution, an often poorly described management action rarely captured in peer review literature. The situation surrounding this potential new threat to blood safety was largely resolved in mid-2011 when it was determined that the virus was an artifact from contaminated patient samples and from contamination stemming from a diagnostic test kit widely used by researchers.

  • Every deliverable has a cost. Where possible the cost for each deliverable and milestone should add up to form the project budget. If the project budget is a critical indicator of progress – for example, in the case of a procurement project – you must specify how the work will be done within budget and how work will be reported: for example, percentage complete, actual versus projected outlays and so on. Your plan should also list the resources needed to achieve each deliverable.

  • At the outset it should be stressed that the published data available for GHGE for food and drinks is very limited and the values are only approximate. Values can vary between different sources of data, with inconsistencies partly explained by differences in the assumptions made in the calculations and methodologies used to estimate GHGEs. While this makes it difficult to combine datasets, the general hierarchy of GHGEs from different food groups is reasonably consistent.
