The U.S. economy is highly dynamic: businesses open and close, workers switch jobs and start new enterprises, and innovative technologies redefine the workplace and enhance productivity. With globalization markets have also become more interconnected. Measuring business activity in this rapidly evolving environment increasingly requires tracking complex interactions among firms, establishments, employers, and employees.
This paper develops theory missing in the sizeable literature that uses data envelopment
analysis to construct return : risk ratios for investment funds. It explores the production
possibility set of the investment funds to identify an appropriate form of returns to
scale. It discusses what risk and return measures can justifiably be combined and how
to deal with negative risks, and identifies suitable sets of measures. It identifies the
problems of failing to deal with diversification and develops an iterative approximation
procedure to deal with it.
Ebook Data-Driven Block ciphers for fast telecommunication systems. Among different directions of applied cryptography, the cipher design based on the data-driven operations (DDOs) is, by comparison, poorly represented in the published and available literature.
We propose an approach for extracting relations between entities from biomedical literature based solely on shallow linguistic information. We use a combination of kernel functions to integrate two different information sources: (i) the whole sentence where the relation appears, and (ii) the local contexts around the interacting entities. We performed experiments on extracting gene and protein interactions from two different data sets. The results show that our approach outperforms most of the previous methods based on syntactic and semantic information. ...
The most established nationwide medical registry in Germany is the Perinatal Registry, which collects
maternal health records concerning pregnancy, delivery and perinatal outcome from now more than
1100 hospitals. Over the past 16 years, data collection was transformed from printed questionnaires to
digital records. A special web-based information source of the German Perinatal Registry does not
There are many books concerned with statistical theory. This is not one of them. This is a practical book. It is aimed
at people who need to understand statistics, but not develop it as a subject. The typical reader might be a postgraduate
student in health, life or social science who has no knowledge of statistics, but needs to use quantitative methods in their
studies. Students who are engaged in qualitative studies will need to read and understand quantitative studies when they
do their literature reviews, this book may be of use to them.
provides insight into the early assessment process and the application of precaution,
an often poorly described management action rarely captured in peer review
literature. The situation surrounding this potential new threat to blood safety was
largely resolved in mid-2011 when it was determined that the virus was an artifact
from contaminated patient samples and from contamination stemming from a
diagnostic test kit widely used by researchers.
Driven by the necessity to incorporate the observed stylized features of asset
prices, continuous-time stochastic modeling has taken a predominant role
in the financial literature over the past two decades. Most of the proposed
models are particular cases of a stochastic volatility component driven by a
Wiener process superposed with a pure-jump component accounting for the
This edition aims to present some relevant topics in the histopathology area that may be of interest for medical doctors and for other professionals interested in pathology. Histopathology applies basic knowledge obtained from biologic and anatomic science to make diagnosis, to determine the severity and progress of a condition and to evaluate the possible response to certain therapies. Thus, it is not surprising that this discipline constantly expands with progresses produced in biology.
A study on French learning, with university students as participants, by Jones and
Plass (2002) supported the proposition that simultaneous visual and auditory
presentations can cause the modality effect, which lowers extraneous cognitive load
and enhances learning performance. Another study about English learning, also with
university students as participants, by Daio et al. (2007) revealed that double modes,
such as sound and complete paragraph, and ...
This comprehensive text explores the philosophy that all nurses are leaders who use creative decision making, entrepreneurship, and life-long learning to create a work environment that is efficient, cost-effective, and committed to quality care. Broad and comprehensive coverage encompasses leadership and management theories and processes by synthesizing information from nursing, health care, general administration and management, and leadership literature.
Most of the literature in forensic mental health assessment is organized
around the particular legal issue that is the focus of a given assessment,
tool, or research study. This book starts with a different assumption: There
are broad principles of forensic assessment that are applicable across
different legal issues. If such principles exist, they should be derived from
and supported by sources of authority in ethics, law, science, and profes-
The cellular damage due to the hypoxi/re-oxigenative stress may trigger the production of
free radicals with consequent destabilization of the cell membranes (Calandrella et al., 2010).
As a matter of fact literature data show that the ischemic insult at retinal level activates
iNOS which leads to the production of nitrogen oxide (Goldstein et al., 1995; Geyer et al.,
1995): this compound is cytotoxic at high concentration and causes lipid peroxidation (Crow
et al., 1996; Ullrich et al., 2000).
Every deliverable has a cost. Where possible the cost for each deliverable and milestone should add up to form
the project budget.
If the project budget is a critical indicator of progress – for example, in the case of a procurement project – you
must specify how the work will be done within budget and how work will be reported: for example, percentage
complete, actual versus projected outlays and so on.
Your plan should also list the resources needed to achieve each deliverable.

Effect of particle size on the thermal conductivity of nanofluids containing metallic nanoparticles
Pramod Warrier, Amyn Teja*
Abstract A one-parameter model is presented for the thermal conductivity of nanofluids containing dispersed metallic nanoparticles. The model takes into account the decrease in thermal conductivity of metal nanoparticles with decreasing size.
At the outset it should be stressed that the published data available for GHGE for food and drinks is very
limited and the values are only approximate. Values can vary between different sources of data, with
inconsistencies partly explained by differences in the assumptions made in the calculations and
methodologies used to estimate GHGEs. While this makes it difficult to combine datasets, the general
hierarchy of GHGEs from different food groups is reasonably consistent.
The data presented in this paper do not speak to all of these empirical assertions,
especially the broader issues about the ability of microfinance institutions to increase overall
rates of economic growth, but they do help to illuminate key issues around commercialization
and the place of non-profit organizations in the microfinance industry.
