Intensive Agriculture: The agriculture sector is specialized in all aspects of agricultural production, including machinery used in farming, animal husbandry, or in processing agricultural products . Intensive agricultural production with large input sources, including the use of chemicals kill worms, herbicides, fertilizers, selective breeding and research of new varieties and a high degree of mechanization.
It was usual for Dr. Norton for a short time on each farm visited in his time
visits, but this time, so many activities going on at once (goat weight (18 farms),
survey (52) and workshops (5) over 10 days of Norton and disease for the first week, not all
The farm has been to visit him. However, some old information has been obtained from the
visiting farms and from the photographs. Here is a brief review of this information
which records the status of each farm at this time.
The University of Queensland, together with its Vietnamese partner institutions, propose a CARD project to enhance the teaching and research capacity of staff in the three institutions. This will be achieved through a project targeting agroforestry systems for livestock feeding in the northern provinces of Vietnam. The project will focus on the use of adapted multipurpose trees in small holder farming and livestock feeding systems.
In order to overcome the limitation of land available for aquaculture in the central costal region of
Vietnam and to reduce organic pollution in traditional integrated fish farming, a new method was
developed called the ‘improved VAC’ In traditional VAC systems the manure from farm animals is
released into fish ponds whereas in the ‘Improved VAC’ the manure is used for earthworm culture.
The worm production is then used to feed high value fish species in tanks.
The project is to transfer a small suite of laboratory technologies to develop a capability in Vietnam for the diagnosis and control of the major disease of pigs, causing financial loss to both large and small scale farmers. The project inputs do not finish at that point, but further include the provision of training to ensure that the benefits to be derived from the enhanced technological capability will be available to farmers. Hence the project spans a number of activities from the laboratory to the farm...
The overall objective of the project is to reduce the use of N fertilizer use on legumes soybean and groundnut in Vietnam through by increasing legume inoculants. Replace N fertilizer with legume inoculants will provide both economic benefits and environmental benefits for farmers and reduce financial stress for poor farmers by reducing input costs. The approach is to raise awareness and demand for inoculants through an expanded program including live demonstrations of the benefits of inoculants and training in the functions and their use.
The development of goat production system in Vietnam has been boosted by the government of Vietnam through the establishment and support for research centers goats and rabbits Shanxi in the north of Vietnam. The initiatives developed at this center through both national and international programs R & D has been successfully implemented local farms in the north, and both national and government province needs to promote similar projects in central and southern Vietnam

Training related to all levels of management, including senior DARD and GRRC administrators and scientists, DARD and the GRRC technicians and extension workers, communal leaders as well as farmers. Two groups of farmers were trained, who farms the new technology has been applied, and farmers from outside the project to be interested to learn more about goats and apply new technologies to farm his.
•ooperation of Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), financial support for this study.

The culture of striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage), or “ca tra” in Vietnamese in
the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, can be considered as a unique aquatic farming system in many ways.
Production is the fastest growth recorded in any aquaculture sector, ever, based on a single species,
superseding the production per unit for any form of primary production. Stripped catfish aquaculture
now need to be improved in many aspects and environmental issues need to be paid more attention to
ensure the sustainable development.
Aquaculture in Vietnam, especially shrimp farming has been growing fast with reagrds both samples and production. However, shrimp yield unstable product quality and sanitation requirements are becoming worse. It is uncontroversal that no development plans and technical limitations are disadvantegs. CARD projects funded under technical and economic feasibility of adopting better management practices for household aquaculture in Vietnam "environmental management activities is a key component to support a successful application of BMP protocol between aquafarmer community....
Detailed assessment of impacts of more than 50 Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in 11 provinces through
which over 2,000 farmers were trained from 2005 to 2006 has shown many beneficial effects. Farmers
have increased knowledge and their skills in planting and protecting citrus trees and at the same time
they have increase awareness of the recording and post-harvest storage, marketing and especially the
changes in farming practices significantly after participating in FFS.
In Mekong delta, mangrove forest distributes along the coastline of 700 km and it is a homeland for mud crab in tropical areas. The mud crab becomes potential to be alternative species from failed shrimp farming. Particularly, mud crab hatchery has been introduced and operated recently at Bac lieu, Tra vinh, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, Kien giang and Ca mau provinces. However, the survival from zoea stage to crablet stage 1 is low at approximately 5%. In addition, like shrimp rearing, the mud crab hatchery is using antibiotic as major treatment to prevent bacteria and fungi.
To enhance the local capacity for teaching, research and extension in agriculture and rural development, the QBII, AFFS, DPI proposes to focus its project on the key priority area of agriculture, and livestock improvement in Vietnam, and within these areas, to deliver activities in the disciplines of biotechnology and genetic improvement as highlighted as a priority area by the Government of Vietnam (GOV) in the Vietnam - Australia Development Cooperation Program, CARD Program Guidelines.
The overall objective of the project is to increase food security and income of rural Vietnamese in coastal communities by improving the profitability, and environmental sustainability, of intensive aquaculture in Vietnam. This addresses identified priorities of the CARD Program to build capacity in areas of fisheries and aquaculture and livestock feed improvement. This will be delivered by building the teaching and research base for aquaculture nutrition at the University of Fisheries (UoF) at Nha Trang.
The ability to achieve an economically efficient livestock production system and to improve the quality of agricultural research and advice in Vietnam is dependent on the capacity of feed laboratories to provide reliable nutritional and analytical data. Vietnam’s laboratories currently lack the resources and skills to meet both industry needs and the higher accreditation standards for Quality Assurance (QA) set as a Government objective. The proposed activity will assist laboratories to meets these industry needs and government goals by:...
The project builds on recommendations on delivery of biocontrol options to Vietnam identified by CABI and UNEP (Jenkins and Vos, 2000. Delivery of Biocontrol Technologies to IPM Farmers: Vietnam. UNEP/CABI Critical Issues Case Studies. CAB International/UNEP publication).
The activities will consist of a workshop on biopesticide selection and identification, biopesticide production and product quality control, and on application and integration into farming systems.
The sub-component of the project on research CARD 026/VIE-05 flat bed dryer, as specified in the contract, including the following activities: Choose the site and supervise the installation of a flat bed dryer 8 tons for the experiments. Conducting experiments with 8-ton dryer under actual production conditions. Building a lab (mini) dryer and other tools necessary for testing in controlled conditions.
Forest Gardening (forest gardening) is considered a form of agriculture oldest in the world. This began in prehistoric times by the river services in the forest in the foothills and humid in tropical monsoon. In the course of a family slowly improving their habitats, species and plant grapes helpful gradually been identified, and improved protection against unwanted species are discarded. Even exotic species were selected and cultivated in their gardens.
