The lubrication of rolling bearings –
similar to that of sliding bearings – mainly
serves one purpose: to avoid or at least
reduce metal-to-metal contact between
the rolling and sliding contact surfaces,
i.e. to reduce friction and wear in the
Oil, adhering to the surfaces of the
parts in rolling contact, is fed between the
contact areas. The oil film separates the
contact surfaces preventing metal-to-metal
contact (»physical lubrication«).
This manual provides guidance on lubricants and hydraulic fluids to engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel and other individuals responsible for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) civil works equipment. Applicability. This manual applies to all USACE commands having civil works responsibility. 3. Discussion. This manual is intended to be a practical guide to lubrication with enough technical detail to allow personnel to recognize and easily discern
This book addresses, in a simplistic manner, the proper principles and
techniques in “Best Maintenance Practices—Mechanical.”
If these principles and techniques are followed, they will result in a serious
reduction in “self-induced failures.” This book is a tool that should be carried
and referenced by all mechanical maintenance personnel.
A number of surveys conducted in industries throughout the United States
have found that 70% of equipment failures are self-induced.
Machinery reliability management in the process industries can be
divided into three phases: equipment selection and pre-erection reliability
assurance, preparation for effective startup, and post-startup reliability
assurance and maintenance cost reduction. All of these phases are important;
they are intertwined and merit equal attention. The techniques and
procedures described in this text cover essential elements of each phase;
they have been critically examined and have led to substantially
improved reliability and maintenance efficiencies.
A further check on the refrigerant charge is described on pages 33 8.
When vapour charging a system with an azeotropic refrigerant such as R502
the refrigerant cylinder must always be kept in a vertical position to prevent
the possibility of liquid refrigerant from entering the compressor. This can
create a dynamic pressure when the compressor starts, causing damage to
valves or may even break piston connecting rods and damage pistons. The
liquid refrigerant will also flush lubricating oil from bearing surfaces.
VACUUM DISTILLATION TOWER
In order to further distill the residuum from the atmospheric tower at higher temperatures, reduced pressure is required to prevent thermal cracking. The process takes place in one vacuum distillation tower. The principles of vacuum distillation resemble those of fractional distillation and, except that larger-diameter columns are used to maintain comparable vapor velocities at the reduced pressures, the equipment is also similar.
This publication presents design examples covering various machines, vehicles and equipment having one thing in common: rolling bearings. For this reason the brief texts concentrate on the rolling bearing aspects of the applications. The operation of the machine allows conclusions to be drawn about the operating conditions which dictate the bearing type and design, the size and arrangement, fits, lubrication and sealing. Important rolling bearing engineering terms are printed in italics. At the end of this publication they are summarized and explained in a...

Lubricants are segmented into Automotive, Industrial, Marines & Specialties (60% volume for global Automotive Lubricants). Products are blended to qualities established by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufactures).
Description In order to meet the demands of cost efficiency, more and more press tools are being equipped with off-the-shelf Cam Slides of highly specialized and often complex design. Embedded lubricants provides a smooth, free-running action.
