The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of agricultural pollution on periphyton in streams and rivers of southern Que´bec. influence the strength of the temporal variation. Some data did not respect normality after be- ing transformed. However, as noted by Scheffe´ (1959) and Montgomery (2001), ANOVAs are relatively in- sensitive to moderate deviations from normality and Land use analyses Mean values for the physico-chemical variables at each site are shown in Table 2 and land use information is shown in Table 3.

Large lakes are important because of their size and ecological distinctiveness, as well as their economic and cultural value. Optimal management of them requires a proper understanding of anthropogenic impacts, both on the lake ecosystems, as such and on the services they provide for society. The specific structural and functional properties of large lakes, e.g. morphology, hydrography, biogeochemical cycles, and food-web structure, are all directly related to their size.

My statement today is primarily based on our prior work related to the department’s efforts to achieve audit readiness, implement modernized business systems and a business enterprise architecture, and reengineer its business processes. In addition, we are providing information on DOD’s updated plans for achieving auditability presented at a February 2012 briefing.

Bronchogenic carcinoma can mimic or be masked by pulmonary tuberculosis (TB), and the aim of this study was to describe the radiologic findings and clinical significance of bronchogenic carcinoma and pulmonary TB which coexist in the same lobe. Materials and Methods: The findings of 51 patients (48 males and three females, aged 48-79 years) in whom pulmonary TB and bronchogenic carcinoma coexisted in the same lobe were analyzed.

This study was designed to describe the radiological findings of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and to compare the observed findings with findings of drug-sensitive (DS) and non-XDR multidrug- resistant (MDR) TB in non-AIDS patients. Materials and Methods: From September 1994 to December 2007, 53 MDR TB patients (M:F = 32:21; mean age, 38 years) and 15 XDR TB non-AIDS patients (M:F = 8:7; mean age, 36 years) were enrolled in the study. All of the MDR TB patients had received no treatment or less than one month of anti-TB treatment.

An overview of the research plan is shown in Figure 3. Paper I covers the background in the form of literature review. Paper II focuses on the optimisation of hot water treatment prior to alkaline peroxide bleaching and on the mechanical refining of hot water treated straw. Paper III focuses on the optimisation of alkaline peroxide bleaching and Paper IV focuses on the chemical pre-treatment/storage of wheat straw. Paper V evaluates the obtained results.

This dissertation will outline solution processable materials and fabrication techniques to manufacture flexible electronic devices from them. Conductive ink formulations and inkjet printing of gold and silver on plastic substrates were examined. Line patterning and mask printing methods were also investigated as a means of selective metal deposition on various flexible substrate materials. These solution-based manufacturing methods provided deposition of silver, gold and copper with a controlled spatial resolution and a very high electrical conductivity.

In the present study intestinal delivery systems resistant to gastric juice, loaded with the probiotic bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus LA14 and Bifidobacterium lactis BI07, were produced by the polyelectrolyte complexation. First, beads were prepared by the traditional extrusion method and nine formulations were developed using alginate as main carrier and the biopolymer, xanthan gum, as hydrophilic retardant polymer or the cellulose derivative, cellulose acetate phthalateDevelopment of microparticulate systems for intestinal delivery of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium lactis.

Most of the epidemiological studies which compared breast cancer risk of active smokers to women who were not smokers (regardless of their passive smoke exposure) have found no association of smoking and breast cancer risk. But several studies found that women who smoked had a decreased breast cancer risk. It is not uncommon for epidemiological studies to come to different assessments of health risk, especially when, as in these studies, the associated risk is not large.

Electric motors convert electrical energy into mechanical energy by utilizing the properties of electromagnetic energy conversion. The different types of motors operate in different ways and have different methods of calculating the performance, but all utilize some arrangement of magnetic fields. Understanding the concepts of electromagnetics and the systems of units that are employed is essential to understanding electric motor operation. The first part of this chapter covers the concepts and units and shows how forces are developed.

This volume is an update of the book, Soil Sampling and Methods of Analysis, first published in 1993. The aims of this second edition remain the same as those of the earlier edition—to provide a compilation of soil analytical and sampling methods that are commonly used, straightforward, and relatively easy to use. The materials and procedures for these methods are presented with sufficient detail and information, along with key references, to characterize the potential and limitation of each method....

This publication deals primarily with small and medium-sized induction motors which are the most common type of alternating current motor. The combination of new materials and more sophisticated methods for calculation, design and production have made the modern three-phase induction motor a robust and reliable prime mover.

The Nondestructive testing science is a broad field that covers variety of testing methods and applications, in addition to the associated pre and post processing mathematics. In terms of methods and techniques the Nondestructive testing modalities rely on different physical phenomena such as the electromagnetism, the acoustic emission, the thermal emission and the penetration of high-energy radiation through materials and structures.
