This Report was developed under the auspices of Program Area
Committee 2 of the National Council on Radiation Protection and
Measurements (NCRP), the committee that is concerned with operational
radiation safety. The Report addresses the structural shielding
design for medical x-ray imaging facilities and supersedes the
parts that address such facilities in NCRP Report No. 49, Structural
Shielding Design and Evaluation for Medical Use of X Rays and
Gamma Rays of Energies Up to 10 MeV, which was issued in
Peripherally Acting Medications Orlistat (Xenical) is a synthetic hydrogenated derivative of a naturally occurring lipase inhibitor, lipostatin, produced by the mold Streptomyces toxytricini. Orlistat is a potent, slowly reversible inhibitor of pancreatic, gastric, and carboxylester lipases and phospholipase A2, which are required for the hydrolysis of dietary fat into fatty acids and monoacylglycerols. The drug acts in the lumen of the stomach and small intestine by forming a covalent bond with the active site of these lipases.
Image registration is the process of spatially aligning two or more images of a scene.
This basic capability is needed in various image analysis applications. The alignment
process will determine the correspondence between points in the images, enabling
the fusion of information in the images and the determination of scene changes.
If identities of objects in one of the images are known, by registering the images,
identities of objects and their locations in another image can be determined.
This book roughly follows the process of care, illustrating the techniques involved in
medical imaging informatics. Our intention in this text is to provide a roadmap for the
different topics that are involved in this field: in many cases, the topics covered in the
ensuing chapters are themselves worthy of lengthy descriptions, if not an entire book.
As a result, when possible the authors have attempted to provide both seminal and
current references for the reader to pursue additional details....
Having a vision, a mission, and a passion are invariably seen as
conditions for success. The 1995 U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services (DHHS) concept of a Metropolitan Medical Response
System (MMRS) demonstrated that the leaders of DHHS had a
vision for an effective response to a mass-casualty terrorism incident with
a weapon of mass destruction. The mission was to expand the experimental
model of the Metropolitan Medical Strike Team (MMST) established
in Washington, D.C., and neighboring counties into a national

The second edition of Safety Evaluation of Medical Devices continues to focus
on the objective of the first edition—to serve as a single-volume practical guide
for those who are responsible for or concerned with ensuring safety in the use
and manufacture of medical devices. It benefits from recognition of the limitations
and shortcomings of the previous edition, and also reflects the changes in
regulations, science, and the marketplace.
Evaluation Methods in Medical Informatics, Second Edition is a heavily updated and revised volume based on editors Friedman and Wyatt's successful first edition. This book incorporates the solid foundation of evaluation theories, methods, and techniques laid out in the first edition, and builds on it to include case studies from real world situations. Designed as a guide for both the informatics novice and the seasoned professional seeking a comprehensive resource, this book explores information systems evaluation from the ground up.
The here presented book covers different areas of clinical and scientific interest, reaching from donor evaluation to newest methods in immunological diagnostics. But also aspects of daily care of transplant recipients can be found in the carefully selected chapters. Everything driven by the aim to improve the care for all of our transplanted patients.

Patients provide valid informed consent to a treatment or a
diagnostic procedure if they have sufficient capacity, have been
given appropriate information, and give consent freely without coercion
or undue influence. When a patient’s capacity for treatment
consent is in doubt, a clinician must determine whether the patient
indeed has the capacity. It is a common reason behind requests for
psychiatric consultations in a general hospital (Appelbaum, 2007).
A I the collection of scientific literature in
the Clark Library has already served as the background for a
number of seminars, in the most recent of them the literature of
embryology and the medical aspects of Robert Boyle's thought
were subjected to a first and expert examination. Charles W.
Bodemer, of the Division of Biomedical History, School of
Medicine, University of Washington, evaluated the embryological
ideas of that remarkable group of inquiring Englishmen,
Sir Kenelm Digby, Nathaniel Highmore, William Harvey, and
Sir Thomas Brovsme. Lester S.
This report presents the final results of the evaluation that RAND conducted for the Army Medical Department as part of the demonstration for the low back pain practice guideline, which was conducted in 1999 and 2000.
n partnership with the Army Medical Department (AMEDD), RAND researchers have been working to implement clinical practice guidelines in treatment of three common ailments (diabetes, asthma, and low back pain). This report is an evaluation of the diabetes practice guideline demonstration. It documents the extent to which
The enzymatic kinetics of glycoside hydrolase family 7 cellobiohydrolase
(Cel7A) towards highly crystalline celluloses at the solid–liquid interface
was evaluated by applying the novel concept of surface density (q) of the
enzyme, which is defined as the amount of adsorbed enzyme divided by the
maximum amount of adsorbed enzyme.
Reviews public- and private-sector programs for assessing and assuring the quality of medical care services, and analyzes their potential effectiveness. In particular, the report examines Professional Standards Review Organizations, the Performance Evaluation Procedures (PEP) used by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, the programs devised by prepaid group practice systems establish......
The STOP system, which generates personalised smoking-cessation letters, was evaluated by a randomised controlled clinical trial. We believe this is the largest and perhaps most rigorous task effectiveness evaluation ever performed on an NLG system. The detailed results of the clinical trial have been presented elsewhere, in the medical literature.
Objectives: To assess the situation of radiation safety, health and illnesss of health workers exposed to ionizing radiation in Thai Nguyen in the year 2012; To analyze the association between radiation safety and health of health workers at health facilities using ionizing radiation in Thai Nguyen; To evaluate the efficacy of some interventions about ensuring radiation safety and health of health workers at health facilities using ionizing radiation in Thai Nguyen.
