  • PARKSERVICE is a new telemedical application combining home-based support for people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and a PD-specific walking aid which uses a strategy known as visual cueing. PD is estimated to affect 100-180 per 100,000 of the population (with most surveys favoring the higher estimate) and has an annual incidence of 4-20 per 100,000[1],[2]. Taking a population of approximately 450M citizens this implies 450,000-900,000 people with PD (PWP) in the EU.

An um can be recognized as thumb or arm if the recognizer's language model does not adequately represent FP's. Recognition of quasi-spontaneous speech (medical dictation) is subject to this problem as well.

  • Spinal disorders are among the most common medical conditions, having a significant impact on health-related quality of life, use of health care resources and socioeconomic costs. As a therapeutic measure, spinal surgery is still one of the most rapidly growing areas in clinical medicine, and is a major contributor to the continuously increasing costs of modern-day medicine. Similarly, the increasingly aging population will have a greater need for the treatment of degenerative spinal disorders, particularly secondary spinal deformities and stenosis.

For example patients with partial epilepsy have twice higher appearence of sleep disorders as in healthy group (39% vs 18%) (Bazil, 2003). According to this study higher presence of sleep disorders did not correlate with antiepileptic therapy. According to Foldvary-Schaefer (2002) patients with epilepsy have problems with initialization of sleep and have worse quality of sleep.

Both nodular and autoimmune diseases affecting these glands have increased remarkably over the past decades. The widespread use of crosssectional imaging and the introduction of neck ultrasonography have led to a thyroid nodule epidemics and the diagnostic of neck lesions in half of the population. Consequently, many patients with microscopic papillary thyroid cancers of uncertain clinical significance are submitted to surgeries that may, perhaps, be unnecessary....
