The study of electromagnetic radiation (EM) can be divided into two distinct areas: full
solution of Maxwell's Equations relevant to the specific boundary conditions in a
special general case and into application of EM radiation that results in modern life
e.g. medicine, telecommunication, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) etc. The
reader should have a specific scientific background and must be familiar with the
fundamental ideas of EM theory for the first area. Basic understanding of applying the
radiation techniques in modern life is needed for the second.
The field of medical imaging is advancing at a rapid pace. Imaging modalities like
x-ray radiography, x-ray computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear imaging,
magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and optical imaging have been used in biology
and medicine to visualize anatomical structures as large as the lung and liver and
as small as molecules. Ultrasound is considered the most cost-effective among them.
It is used routinely in hospitals and clinics for diagnosing a variety of diseases.
The Coordinated Street Furniture Program intends to change how our city streets look, function and meet the needs
of residents and visitors. The goal of the program is to harmonize the design, form, scale, materials and placement of
street furniture, so that it contributes to the accessibility, safety and beauty of our public spaces. The program will be
implemented through a Request For Proposal (RFP) process that will seek proposals from the private sector to provide
coordinated street furniture elements under a financial arrangement that creates long-term value to the City.
