  • Metal foams are a new, as yet imperfectly characterized, class of materials with low densities and novel physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical and acoustic properties. They offer potential for lightweight structures, for energy absorption, and for thermal management; and some of them, at least, are cheap. The current understanding of their production, properties and uses in assembled in this Design Guide.

  • Polyurethane [PU] is a class of polymers built up of carabamate linkages, which provide special characteristics to the material. It is the outcome of pioneering research work of Otto Bayer and his coworkers in 1937 at I.G. Farben laboratories, in Leverkusen, Germany. Initial PU consisted of foams and fibres, while today, innovations and researches in the past decades have brought colossal changes in the world of PU.

  • The dual fluidized beds experimental set up is made of transparent perspex material. The system consists of a fast bed riser, a cyclone to separate the solids, a down comer with a L- valve, a bubbling fluidized bed and a return pipe with another L-valve. The system is shown schematically in Fig 1. The solids after passing through the fast bed riser gets separated in the cyclone, descend downwards through the down comer and enter the bubbling bed reactor through the L-valve. A part of bed materials in the bubbling bed system are then transferred back into the...
