  • In recent years, the affordability of weapon systems has become increasingly important to policymakers in the Department of Defense and U.S. Congress. Aerospace industry analysts and some government officials have asserted that government cost estimates are based on outdated methods that do not account for the latest technological innovations. The authors of this report present the results of a RAND research study to update the methods for estimating military jet engine costs and development time.

  • The Universal Verification Methodology (UVM) is a standardized methodology for verifying integrated circuit designs. UVM is derived mainly from the OVM (Open Verification Methodology) which was, to a large part, based on the eRM (e Reuse Methodology) for the e Verification Language developed by Verisity Design in 2001. The UVM class library brings much automation to the SystemVerilog language such as sequences and data automation features (packing, copy, compare) etc.

  • Charging for Network Security Based on Long-Run Incremental Cost Pricing Pricing for the use of the networks is essential in the way that it should be able to reflect the costs benefits imposed on a network when connecting a new generator or demand and to provide forward-looking message to influence the site and size of future network customers. Studies have been extensively carried out over the years to achieve this pricing goal. Few methodologies can directly link nodal generation/demand increment to network long-run marginal/incremental costs.

  • Three different statistical models were used to assess differences in scores between minority and low-income individuals, as opposed to residents of high minority or low- income areas (not all of whom, of course, are minorities or poor). Based on the most credible of the three models, African-American and Hispanic insureds had scores in the worst credit score group at a rate of about 30 percentage points higher than did other individuals (for example, where 30 percent of one group may have poor scores, compared to 60 percent of another group). A gap of 30 percentage...

  • The growing availability of spoken language corpora presents new opportunities for enriching the methodologies of speech and language therapy. In this paper, we present a novel approach for constructing speech motor exercises, based on linguistic knowledge extracted from spoken language corpora. In our study with the Dutch Spoken Corpus, syllabic inventories were obtained by means of automatic syllabification of the spoken language data.

  • In this paper, I discuss issues pertinent to the design of a task-based evaluation methodology for a spoken machine translation (MT) system processing human to human communication rather than human to machine communication. I claim that system mediated human to human communication requires new evaluation criteria and metrics based on goal complexity and the speaker's prioritization of goals. ystem

  • The methodology of organizational diagnosis is to establish the widely shared understanding of a system and, based on that understanding, to determine whether change is desirable. By stating and then maintaining that the initial work in the client system is diagnosis, consultants provide clients with bases against which they can be held accountable.

  • The GIVE Challenge is a recent shared task in which NLG systems are evaluated over the Internet. In this paper, we validate this novel NLG evaluation methodology by comparing the Internet-based results with results we collected in a lab experiment. We find that the results delivered by both methods are consistent, but the Internetbased approach offers the statistical power necessary for more fine-grained evaluations and is cheaper to carry out.

  • Obtaining large volumes of inference knowledge, such as entailment rules, has become a major factor in achieving robust semantic processing. While there has been substantial research on learning algorithms for such knowledge, their evaluation methodology has been problematic, hindering further research. We propose a novel evaluation methodology for entailment rules which explicitly addresses their semantic properties and yields satisfactory human agreement levels. The methodology is used to compare two state of the art learning algorithms, exposing critical issues for future progress. ...

  • SAT scores (Scholastic Assessment Test) is one of the key requirements most colleges and universities in America use to determine the acceptance of students. SAT scores also are important bases for granting scholarships. So if you're American dream of studying abroad, begin preparing for the SAT as soon as possible. SAT consists of three main parts: Math, Reading and Writing papers, a scale for each section from 200 to 800 points. SAT score is the sum of three parts combined.

  • inaccuracies lead to the deviation of operational space trajectory provided by the kinematic mapping. One method to deal with this issue can be found in an adaptive control. Xu and Gu proposed an adaptive control scheme for space robots in both joint space and operational space [Xu et al., 1992, Gu & Xu, 1993]. However, the adaptive control proposed in [Xu et al., 1992] requires perfect attitude control and the adaptive control in [Gu & Xu, 1993] is developed based on an under-actuated system on the assumption that the acceleration of the base-satellite is measurable.

Recall that in Module I we started off by studying fundamental programming concepts like variables, console input and output, arrays, conditional statements, strings, loops, and file input and output. We then pursued higher level programming methodologies such as classes, object oriented programming design, operator overloading, inheritance, and polymorphism. By now you should feel competent with the fundamentals and at least comfortable with the higher level subject matter...
