PIC Microcontrollers are present in almost every new electronic application that is released from garage door openers to the iPhone. With the proliferation of this product more and more engineers and engineers-to-be (students) need to understand how to design, develop, and build with them. Martin Bates, best-selling author, has provided a step-by-step guide to programming these microcontrollers (MCUs) with the C programming language.
PIC microcontrollers; low-cost computers-in-a-chip; allows electronics designers and hobbyists add intelligence and functions that mimic big computers for almost any electronic product or project. The purpose of this book is not to make a microcontroller expert out of you, but to make you equal to those who had someone to go to for their answers.
The MSP430 microcontroller family offers ultra-low power mixed signal, 16-bit architecture that is perfect for wireless low-power industrial and portable medical applications. This book begins with an overview of embedded systems and microcontrollers followed by a comprehensive in-depth look at the MSP430. The coverage included a tour of the microcontroller's architecture and functionality along with a review of the development environment. Start using the MSP430 armed with a complete understanding of the microcontroller and what you need to get the microcontroller up and running...
This is a book about embedded systems, introduced primarily through the application of three PIC® microcontrollers.
Starting from an introductory level, the book aims to make the reader into a competent and
independent practitioner in the field of embedded systems, to a level whereby he or she has the skills
necessary to gain entry to professional practice in the embedded world.
In a time when digital electronics is becoming more complex and less accessible to
students and low-end project and product developers, microcontrollers have become
the tools of choice for learning about electronics and programming as well as providing
the capabilities needed to create sophisticated applications cheaply and easily. If
you were to look through any electronics magazine, you would discover that almost
every example application uses a microcontroller (often abbreviated to just MCU) to
provide a user interface, sequence operations, and respond to changing inputs.
The microcontroller unit (MCU) is the ultimate electronics tinker-toy, and in this book you’re going to see
how to tinker away with it to your heart’s delight! My intended audience for this book is those who like to learn
hands-on. Learning by doing and seeing has always been my preferred way to learn: If it’s yours too, let’s take the
ride together. For those who like to understand the “why” first of all, the book also includes some background
material that explains why using microcontrollers in everyday situations can be such a powerful concept.
The revisions required in the second edition of this book are mainly due to the rapid development of microcontroller technology. As the PIC family of devices has grown, more features have been incorporated at lower cost. So, while the focus of the first edition was the popular 16F84 chip, and this remains a valuable reference point for the beginner, the scope has been expanded so that a broader understanding of the range microcontroller types and applications can be gained.
The PIC 16F877A microcontroller is used as the reference device in this book, as it contains a full range of peripherals and a reasonable memory capacity. It was also used in the previous work on interfacing, so there is continuity if the book series is taken as a complete course in PIC application development. Microcontrollers are traditionally programmed in assembly language, each type having its own syntax, which translates directly into machine code.

Circumstances that we find ourselves in today in the field of microcontrollers had their beginnings in the development of technology of integrated circuits. This development has made it possible to store hundreds of thousands of transistors into one chip. That was a prerequisite for production of microprocessors , and the first computers were made by adding external peripherals such as memory, input-output lines, timers and other. Further increasing of the volume of the package resulted in creation of integrated circuits. These integrated circuits contained both processor and peripherals.

The ATmega16 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC
architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATmega16 achieves
throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz allowing the system designer to optimize power consumption
versus processing speed.
Get started with MintDuino, the Maker Shed kit that's perfect for learning or teaching the fundamentals of how microcontrollers work. This hands-on book shows you how to build a complete MintDuino project from start to finish. Learn how to assemble the microcontroller on a breadboard (no soldering required), and immediately begin programming it.
You'll build the MintDuino Reflex Game in five separate stages or sub-tasks. Breaking down a large project into manageable tasks helps you track down errors quickly...
The HCMOS MC68HC11A8 is an advanced 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) with highly sophisticated on-chip peripheral capabilities. A fully static design and high-density complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (HCMOS) fabrication process allow E-series devices to operate at frequencies from 3 MHz to dc, with very low power consumption.
