The aim of this work is to present some preliminary results of an investigation in course on the typology of the morphology of the native South American languages from the point of view of the formal language theory. With this object, we give two contrasting examples of descriptions of two Aboriginal languages ﬁnite verb forms morphology: Argentinean Quechua (quichua santiague˜ o) and Toba.
We present a preliminary study on unsupervised preposition sense disambiguation (PSD), comparing different models and training techniques (EM, MAP-EM with L0 norm, Bayesian inference using Gibbs sampling). To our knowledge, this is the ﬁrst attempt at unsupervised preposition sense disambiguation.
In this work I address the challenge of augmenting n-gram language models according to prior linguistic intuitions. I argue that the family of hierarchical Pitman-Yor language models is an attractive vehicle through which to address the problem, and demonstrate the approach by proposing a model for German compounds. In an empirical evaluation, the model outperforms the Kneser-Ney model in terms of perplexity, and achieves preliminary improvements in English-German translation.
For the last two decades, Vietnam has achieved great developments in economic. Our
country is in the middle of industrialization and modernization process. But side-effects of
economic developments which is greater than ever are environmental problems, especially
water pollution. At present, with the pressure of environmental pollution, river water
quality is showing signs of pollution at some degrees. For the season, it is necessary to
assessing and monitoring river water quality, then using models to simulate water quality
to propose managing strategies.
This paper discusses the task of formulating a model of linguistic performance and proposes an approach toward this goal that is oriented toward an embodiment of the model as a digital-computer program. The methodology of current linguistic theory is criticized for several of its features that render it inapplicable to a realistic model of performance, and remedies for these deficiencies are proposed.
The centering framework explains local coherence by relating local focus and the form of referring expressions. It has proven useful in monolog, but its utility for multiparty discourse has not been shown, and a variety of issues must be tackled to adapt the model for dialog. This paper reports our application of three naive models of centering theory for dialog. These results will be used as baselines for evaluating future models.
