The planet is a marvelous place with its blue skies, wild storms,
deep lakes, and rich and diverse ecosystems. The tides ebb and
flow, baby animals are born in the spring, and tropical rain
forests harbor an astonishing array of life. The Earth sustains living
things and provides humans with the resources they need to maintain
a bountiful way of life. These resources include water, soil, and nutrients
to grow food, and the mineral and energy resources to build and
fuel modern society, among many other things....
During my career, some 35 years, there has been a growing realization that
the goal of successful nuclear waste management and the final disposal of
long-lived radionuclides can only be attained by a thorough understanding
of the behavior of key, technogenic radionuclides in the environment. Within
a nuclear reactor, these radionuclides are created by fission, neutron capture
and subsequent beta-decay reactions on actinides, mainly
U, and by
activation nuclear reactions.
This handbook is intended to be a resource for people affected by landslides to acquire further knowledge, especially about the conditions that are unique to their neighborhoods and communities. Considerable literature and research are available concerning landslides, but unfortunately little of it is synthesized and integrated to address the geographically unique geologic and climatic conditions around the globe.

This report has five chapters: Chapter 1 outlines its contents; Chapter 2 describes the institutional framework for environmental protection in Vietnam; Chapter 3 focuses on the social environment; Chapter 4 discusses the natural environment in the study area; and Chapter 5 assesses the environmental aspects for the feasibility studies. For the social environment context, the resettlement issue is analyzed in Chapter 4. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) was prepared in a different format.

Many of the Earth’s elements travel or cycle through the natural environment. This means
that they are transported from the soil into nearby lakes and rivers, and then evaporate
from the water into the air, to be transported by wind and eventually re-deposited to
the surface where the cycle starts over again. Mercury cycles through the environment
