This paper presents a new model for word alignments between parallel sentences, which allows one to accurately estimate different parameters, in a computationally efficient way. An application of this model to bilingual terminology extraction, where terms are identified in one language and guessed, through the alignment process, in the other one, is also described. An experiment conducted on a small English-French parallel corpus gave results with high precision, demonstrating the validity of the model. ...
A number of Russian verbs lack 1sg nonpast forms. These paradigmatic gaps are puzzling because they seemingly contradict the highly productive nature of inflectional systems. We model the persistence and spread of Russian gaps via a multi-agent model with Bayesian learning. We ran three simulations: no grammar learning, learning with arbitrary analogical pressure, and morphophonologically conditioned learning. We compare the results to the attested historical development of the gaps.

The two dominant networking models are the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and the Internet model (TCP/IP).The first is a theoretical framework; the second is the actual model used in today's data communications. Internet is based on TCP/IP. TCP/IP has become the standard language of networking. However,
the seven layers of the OSI model are the ones most commonly used to describe and compare
networking software and hardware from various vendors. It is very important to know both models
and be able to relate or map the layers of one to the other.
This thesis addresses two neural network based control systems. The ﬁrst is a neural network based predictive controller. System identiﬁcation and controller design are discussed. The second is a direct neural network controller. Parameter choice and training methods are discussed. Both controllers are tested on two diﬀerent plants. Problems regarding implementations are discussed. First the neural network based predictive controller is introduced as an extension to the generalised predictive controller (GPC) to allow control of non-linear plant.
