This book reports the latest development and trends in the low Re number
aerodynamics, transition from laminar to turbulence, unsteady low Reynolds number
flows, experimental studies, numerical transition modelling, control of low Re number
flows, and MAV wing aerodynamics. This book focuses particularly on: (1) a review
and brief information study on low Reynolds number flows and transition as an
introduction to low Re number aerodynamics (Chapter 1), (2) transition modelling
(Chapters 2-4), flow control (Chapters 5-7).
In our recent book, Free Cash Flow and Shareholder Yield: New Priorities
for the Global Investor (John Wiley & Sons, 2007), we offered a comprehensive
introduction to the opportunities and challenges inherent in today’s
equity markets. By looking beyond the many obfuscations of traditional
generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) accounting, we endeavored
to provide the informed investor with the tools necessary to navigate a
changing investment landscape.

The analysis of blood, bone marrow and tissue fluid specimens requires a multi–faceted approach with the integration of scientific data from a number of disciplines. No single discipline can operate in isolation or errors will occur. Flow cytometry is in a privileged position in that it can provide rapid analysis of specimens and it is often the first definitive investigation to produce results and help formulate a working diagnosis.
After reading this chapter, you should be able to answer the following questions: How can liquidity measures be influenced by the inventory cost-flow assumption used? How do suppliers and creditors use a customer’s payment practices to judge liquidity? What are the influences of alternative inventory cost-flow assumptions and depreciation methods on turnover ratios?...
Chapter 9 - The income statement and the statement of cash flows. After reading this chapter, you should be able to answer the following questions: What is revenue, and what are the two criteria that permit revenue recognition? How is cost of goods sold determined under both perpetual and periodic inventory accounting systems? What is the significance of gross profit, and how is gross profit calculated and used?...
Ebook Introduction to continuum mechanics has contents: Introduction, the notion of stress; budgets, fluxes, and the equations of motion; kinematics in continuum mechanics; elastic bodies; waves in an elastic medium, statics of elastic media, newtonian fluids, creeping flow, high reynolds number flow.
The 1980s and 1990s have been critical periods for Thailand’s development. After an initial period of instability in the early 1980s, Thailand’s economy expanded at an average pace of 9 percent p.a. during 1987–96, while the number of households below the poverty line dropped from 32.6 percent in 1988 to 16.3 percent in 1996.
During this period, Thailand’s economy also underwent deep structural changes, including the liberalization of its financial sector and the integration of its economy with global financial and product markets.
The last two decades have witnessed an extensive growth in foreign direct investment
(FDI) flows to developing countries. This has been accompanied by an increase in
competition amongst the developing countries to attract FDI, resulting in a rise in
investment incentives offered by the host governments and removal of restrictions on
operations of foreign firms in their countries. This has also led to an ever-increasing
number of bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and regional agreements on...
Soil mechanics involves a combination of engineering mechanics
and the properties of soils. This description is broad
and can encompass a wide range of soil types. These soils
could either be saturated with water or have other fluids in
the voids (e.g., air). The development of classical soil mechanics
has led to an emphasis on particular types of soils.
The common soil types are saturated sands, silts and clays,
and dry sands. These materials have been the emphasis in
soil mechanics textbooks.
Fractures are ubiquitous in the brittle lithosphere in the upper part of earth’s crust.
They play a critical role in the transport of fluids. Moreover, all major discovered
geothermal reservoirs and a considerable number of petroleum reservoirs are in fractured
rocks. This restates the importance of studying multiphase flow behavior inside the
opened fracture space.
From the engineering point of view, a rock fracture as defined here is simply a
complex-shaped cavity filled with fluids or solid minerals. Therefore it is understood to
include cracks, joints, and faults.
Structural Testing is used to verify the static strength, or fatigue strength of a component by applying measured loads to the test item. Testing can be done to failure, to contractual requirements or to validate finite element model predictions. DTB has successfully completed thousands of structural tests on items ranging in size and complexity from simple coupons to entire aircraft.
Fatigue Testing is carried out with the objective of determining the relationship between the stress range and the number of times it can be applied before causing failure....
The first edition of Handbook of MRI Technique was a resounding success. The rapidly increasing number of radiographers and technologists entering the modality, coupled with the development of education and training courses worldwide, has resulted in an increased demand for MRI books of any shape and size. The education of radiographers, technologists and radiologists often lags behind the rapid technological advances in MR.
Since its first implementation by Lauterbur , Magnetic Resonance
Imaging (MRI) has become an important noninvasive imaging
modality. MRI has found a number of applications in the fields of
biology, engineering, and material science. Because it provides unique
contrast between soft tissues (which is generally superior to that of
CT) and high spatial resolution, MRI has revolutionized diagnostic
imaging in medical science. An important advantage of diagnostic MRI
as compared to CT is that the former does not use ionizing radiation....
The centrifugal pumps with the actual configuration constitute a machine widely used for more than 150 years. The pumps are analyzed and examined in detail, a lot of experience from the design, construction and application of centrifugal pumps is accumulated worldwide but still there is an endless number of topics that need supplementary examination, mainly of topics arising from the interaction between the pump and the pumping installation.
I and my fellow Board members at the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) are committed
to developing high quality, understandable, and enforceable global accounting standards that meet the demands
for comparable and transparent information in the world’s capital markets. Recently we completed a
work program to develop and issue a stable platform of such standards. Those standards, the International
Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), are now being implemented in a large number of countries around the
In 2001 I was contacted by a consortium of research institutions and wind energy
interests with a request to provide some background information on the operational
characteristics of acoustic radars or SODARs. The consortium partners had set
up and been funded for an European EU project to evaluate SODARs as a tool in
monitoring wind flows at wind turbine sites. They felt reasonably confident in their
knowledge of SODARs and had purchased some instruments, but wanted to be able
to consult on any more complex issues which arose.
This standard is issued under the fixed designation C 230/C 230M; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year of original adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. A superscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.
The present edition has been updated in a number of renewable energy
technology areas (Chapter 4 and 5), where progress have been made over the
recent years. New solar simulation studies have been added to Chapter 6,
and market considerations have been included in the overview in Chapter 1,
and in discussing industry liberalisation in Chapter 7. The remarks on
advanced subjects made in the preface to the 2nd edition are still valid. A new
growth area is fuel cells for stationary and mobile uses of hydrogen and
