• ### Báo cáo khoa học: An answer to a question by Wilf on packing distinct patterns in a permutation

There has been significant interest in the topic of finding permutations containing many copies of the same pattern. In this paper, we will be concerned with the other extremity, permutations containing as many different patterns as possible. At the Conference on Permutation Patterns, Otago, New Zealand, 2003, Herb Wilf asked how many distinct patterns could be contained in a permutation of length n. Based on empirical evidence, it seemed this number may approach the theoretical upper bound of 2n.

• ### Cloud Architecture Patterns

This book focuses on the development of cloud-native applications. A cloud-native ap plication is architected to take advantage of specific engineering practices that have proven successful in some of the world’s largest and most successful web properties. Many of these practices are unconventional, yet the need for unprecedented scalability and efficiency inspired development and drove adoption in the relatively small number of companies that truly needed them. After an approach has been adopted successfully enough times, it becomes a pattern.

• ### Patterns-Based Engineering

“This book introduces a new and important idea, providing a rigorous approach to Patterns-Based Engineering. As the number of published patterns has increased, understanding how to apply them across all parts of the software development lifecycle has become critically important.” —Kyle Brown, Distinguished Engineer, IBM Software Group, Author of Persistence in the Enterprise “To misquote Confucius, ‘Give a man a solution and you solve his problem for a day. Teach a man a pattern and you’ve solved his problems for a lifetime.

• ### Báo cáo khoa học: "Homophones and Tonal Patterns in English-Chinese Transliteration"

The abundance of homophones in Chinese significantly increases the number of similarly acceptable candidates in English-to-Chinese transliteration (E2C). The dialectal factor also leads to different transliteration practice. We compare E2C between Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese, and report work in progress for dealing with homophones and tonal patterns despite potential skewed distributions of individual Chinese characters in the training data.

• ### Báo cáo khoa học: "DETECTING PATTERNS IN ALEXICAL DATABASE"

In a well-structured Lexica] Data B a s e , a number of relations among lexica] entries can he interactively evidenced. The present article examines hyponymy, as an example of paradigmatic relation, and "restriction" relation, as a syntagmatic relation. The theoretical results of their implementation are illustrated.

• ### Báo cáo khoa học: "SEMANTICALLY SIGNIFICANT PATTERNS IN DICTIONARY DEFINITIONS *"

In fact, the ability to handle idiosyncratic behavior of phrases should be a criterion for any theory of lexical representation. Due to the huge number of such phrases in the English language, phrase representation must be amenable to parsing, generation, and also to learning. In this paper we demonstrate a semantic representation which facilitates, for a wide variety of phrases, both learning and parsing.

• ### Báo cáo khoa học: "Rule Filtering by Pattern for Efficient Hierarchical Translation"

We describe refinements to hierarchical translation search procedures intended to reduce both search errors and memory usage through modifications to hypothesis expansion in cube pruning and reductions in the size of the rule sets used in translation. Rules are put into syntactic classes based on the number of non-terminals and the pattern, and various filtering strategies are then applied to assess the impact on translation speed and quality. Results are reported on the 2008 NIST Arabic-toEnglish evaluation task. ...

• ### INTERNATIONAL TRADE FROM ECONOMIC AND POLICY PERSPECTIVE

Today's international trade is radically more complex. The revolution in information and communication technologies fostered an internationalisation of supply chains which created a nexus between trade, investment, and services which is at the heart of so much of today's international commerce. Fundamental changes in recent decades have heightened the need for new and viable solutions to the problems of international trade.

• ### Statistical Digital Signal Processing and Modeling

The main thrust is to provide students with a solid understanding of a number of important and related advanced topics in digital signal processing such as Wiener filters, power spectrum estimation, signal modeling and adaptive filtering. Scores of worked examples illustrate fine points, compare techniques and algorithms and facilitate comprehension of fundamental concepts. Also features an abundance of interesting and challenging problems at the end of every chapter.

• ### Teach Yourself Swahili © Hassan O. Ali & Ali M. Mazrui

Over the last two decades the issue of asylum in the UK has become increasingly controversial and emotive, successive governments have focused on reducing the number of asylum applications in the UK and on increasing the number of asylum seekers who are removed because their applications are unsuccessful. 30 Policies include visa sanctions, air- carriers liability, the increased use of detention, anti-smuggling operations, the deployment of UK immigration officers beyond UK territories and the use of airline liaison officers.

• ### Math Wonders To Inspire Teachers And Students

Bertrand Russell once wrote, “Mathematics possesses not only truth but supreme beauty, a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, sublimely pure and capable of a stern perfection, such as only the greatest art can show.” Can this be the same Russell who, together with Alfred Whitehead, authored the monumental Principia Mathematica, which can by no means be regarded as a work of art, much less as sublimely beautiful? So what are we to believe?

• ### Đề tài " Minimal surfaces from circle patterns: Geometry from combinatorics "

The theory of polyhedral surfaces and, more generally, the field of discrete differential geometry are presently emerging on the border of differential and discrete geometry. Whereas classical differential geometry investigates smooth geometric shapes (such as surfaces), and discrete geometry studies geometric shapes with a finite number of elements (polyhedra), the theory of polyhedral surfaces aims at a development of discrete equivalents of the geometric notions and methods of surface theory. The latter appears then as a limit of the refinement of the discretization. ...

• ### U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission “We are the investor’s advocate”

Students should note that Congress generally prohibits the use of appropriated funds to employ non-citizens within the United States. That restriction is discussed on the USAJobs Web site. Students who are not U.S. citizens are eligible for the student observer program. However, they should recognize that they are generally not eligible to be hired as employees after graduation. We have a limited number of slots and cannot hire all of the students who would be successful interns. Students are welcome to decline our offers.

• ### ELDERLY HOUSING CONSUMPTION: HISTORICAL PATTERNS AND PROJECTED TRENDS

In the period 1985 to 2003, the elderly population aged 62 to 74 decreased by close to six percent, whereas the elderly population aged 75 to 84 grew by close to 35 percent. Householders aged 45 to 54 show a dramatic increase in numbers over the 1985 to 2003 time period – i.e., a 70 percent increase from 12.8 million to 21.8 million. This is interesting because by 1991, the first cohort of the Baby Boomer generation began entering this age category. (The last cohort entered the age category in 2003.) ...

• ### Biomechanical Walking Pattern Changes in the Fitand and Healthy Elderly

In the past two decades a number of investigators have attempted to combine measures of mortality and morbidity in order to address issues of whether Americans are living longer, healthy lives, as well as just longer lives. In general, a life-table approach is used to divide increases in years lived into healthy and unhealthy years. These measures have the same useful characteristics as life-table measures based only on mortality. They can be compared across time and place, and they summarize a large amount of age-specific data.

• ### The Nature and Scope of Marketing

During the last decade consumer groups, parents and teachers’ bodies, and public health advocacy organisations have called for greater control on the marketing of foods and beverages to children. A number of authoritative reports have highlighted the need to restrict such marketing to ensure that children are not unduly influenced to consume foods high in fats, sugar and salt. A 2009 review of regulations (the PolMark study1) suggested that successful regulation required government leadership with specified timelines and clear, measurable objectives.
