The state of the national economy has a profound effect on career interests and the choices
of prospective job seekers. This is reflected in part by the variation in the number of people
seeking admission to vocational schools, colleges, universities, and professional schools at
different periods in time. The variable economic cycle also influences, to some extent, those
considering health-care careers. Nevertheless, the aging population has greatly increased
the demand for professionals and paraprofessionals in the health-care field.
This book has emerged from our experience in the education of allied health
professionals (AHPs), particularly student occupational therapists. As tutors we
were aware that students, especially as they neared qualification, struggled to
find a suitable textbook examining the key areas that contextualised their study
of profession-specific skills.
Psychological distress increases with the intensity of cancer pain. Cancer pain is often under-reported
and under-treated for a variety of complex reasons, partly due to a number of beliefs held by patients,
families and healthcare professionals. There is evidence that cognitive behavioural techniques that
address catastrophising and promote self-efficacy lead to improved pain management. Group format pain
management programmes could contribute to the care of cancer survivors with persistent pain.

even when in the midst of other resting travellers.
Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it” and I have taken these words to
heart. Starting your own business as a FSO family member is a great experience and the at your
embassy can help you make your dreams a reality too. A big heartfelt thanks goes out to all GEI
coordinators. Loretta Dusini served as my coach, counselor and confidant; so that I could go on
to make my overseas experience, the best experience ever!
EFM, Occupational Therapist, San Salvador
One day I happened to go by the CLO office...
I mentioned that I thought it would be hard to find a job in something as specialized as
Occupational Therapy on the local market, especially with the language barrier. Right away the
CLO called Anne Ramos, the GEA coordinator, to see if we could meet and talk. When I met
with Anne, I explained that I was a certified Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapy is
the treatment of cognitive, physical, and /or psycho-social dysfunction that hinders individuals
from participating in daily activities.
There are several ways policies may cover home health care. Some long-
term care insurance policies only pay for care in your home from licensed
home health agencies. Some also will pay for care from licensed health care
providers not from a licensed agency. These include licensed practical
nurses; occupational, speech, or physical therapists; or licensed home
health care aides. Other policies may pay for services from home health
care aides who may not be licensed or are not from licensed agencies.
Home health care aides help with personal care.
