This work collects the recent papers discussed in the International Workshop
on Debris Flows held in Kagoshima, Japan, in 1993, in response to the Inter-
national Decade of Natural Disaster Reduction Program. Although the debris
flow was called as a shadowy disaster about thirty years ago which often killed
a few hundreds people, the recent studies are going to clarify the mechanism
of the flow and ...
The health of the mother has a profound effect on the health of her children.
This effect is most noticeable during pregnancy but persists throughout the
child’s life. I concentrate here on the impact of poverty and low income on
the relationship between maternal health in pregnancy and during the early
years of her child’s life and child health. Poverty in childhood exerts its effect
throughout the life course and can be
transmitted across generations.
Health disparities are differences that occur by gender,
race and ethnicity, education level, income level, disability,
or geographic location. Health disparities exist among all
age groups, including among children and adolescents.
For example, low-income and children of color lag behind
their more affl uent and White peers in terms of health
status. Children lower in the socioeconomic hierarchy suffer
disproportionately from almost every disease and show higher
rates of mortality than those above them.
The tension structures discussed in this book are predominantly roofing forms created from pre-stressed cable nets, cable trusses, and continuous membranes (fabric structures). A unique feature in their design is form-finding an interactive process of defining the shape of a structure under tension. The book discusses the role of stable minimal surfaces (minimum energy forms occurring in natural objects, such as soap films) in finding optimal shapes of membrane and cable structures.
Southeast Asia Digital Future in Focus 2013 products media frag mentation is occurring at light speed in comscore has been preparing for a future today’s multi platform environment, which features scenario where most people will consume content not only computers, but smartphones, tablets, on the go and pcs would no longer be the centre gaming platforms and a seemingly ever increasing of the digital universe. This future is quickly number of emerging devices.
It is generally agreed that abuse of older people is
either an act of commission or of omission (in
which case it is usually described as ‘‘neglect’’), and
that it may be either intentional or unintentional.
The abuse may be of a physical nature, it may be
psychological (involving emotional or verbal
aggression), or it may involve financial or other
material maltreatment. Regardless of the type of
abuse, it will certainly result in unnecessary
suffering, injury or pain, the loss or violation of
human rights, and a decreased quality of life for the
older person (4).
Health in its broadest sense includes physical and mental health. Even though many health
workers agree with this broad conception of health, in reality the focus is mainly on physical
health. There are many reasons for this. Probably the most important reason is that health
workers do not understand much about mental health and are therefore less comfortable dealing
with mental health problems. However, in recent years there has been growing awareness about
various types of mental illnesses. Many health workers have become more interested in dealing
with these problems.
Under the full faith and credit provision, law enforcement officers,
prosecutors, and the courts are required to enforce all protection orders,
whether issued in their jurisdiction or in another state, tribe, or territory.
That means if police are authorized to arrest someone for violation of a
local order, they may also arrest for violation of a non-local order. If law
enforcement has warrantless arrest authority in the enforcing location,
they should arrest for all violations
they observe or believe occurred
Consideration should be given to the question of animal welfare before installing new equipment
or adopting new husbandry systems. In general, the greater the restriction imposed on an animal
and the greater the complexity of the system or the degree of control that is exercised over
temperature, air flow, or food supply, the less the animal is able to use its instinctive behaviour to
modify the effect of unfavourable conditions and the greater the chance of suffering if mechanical
or electrical failure occurs.
In a study of the impact of dividend and earnings on stock prices, Hartone (2004) argues that a
significantly positive impact is made on equity prices if positive earnings information occurs after
negative dividend information. Also, a significantly negative impact occurs in equity pricing if positive
dividend information is followed by negative earning information. Docking and Koch (2005) discovers
that there is a direct relationship between dividend announcement and equity price behavior.
This first part is concerned with processes in which the kinetic behaviour of a
gaseous phase is rate-determining. The range of processes includes some which
are carried out in vacuum systems in which Knudsen or free evaporation occurs
from a condensed phase, to transport reactions where a chemical reaction
occurs between a solid and the gaseous phase to produce molecular species
containing some or all of the elements occurring in the solid phase.
ATM QUEUEING BEHAVIOUR
We have seen in the previous chapter that queueing occurs with CBR traffic when two or more cells arrive during a time slot. If a particular source is CBR, we know that the next cell from it is going to arrive after a fixed duration given by the period, D, of the source, and this gives the ATM buffer some time to recover from multiple arrivals in any time slot when a number of sources are multiplexed together (hence the result that Poisson arrivals are a worst-case model for cell-scale queueing). ...
Psychiatric diagnosis requires doctors to make judgements based on their
understanding of their patients’ mental states and emotional processes, and relate these to a
‘normal’ or ‘healthy standard’. Clearly this exercise is (at the very least) much more difficult
where doctor and patient do not share a language, a set of concepts around the nature of
mind and emotion, and an understanding of what behaviours fall within and without each
others’ cultural norms.
